Creating a Custom Condition to Bypass Duplicate Error Message in Salesforce

Hey everyone! Shane here from Zapier Support. If turning off the Alerts isn't practical when you receive a duplicate error for your Salesforce setup, you can set up a custom condition to bypass the duplication rule. First, ask your Salesforce Administrator to create a custom field on the object(s) that you would need to send to Salesforce. We suggest calling this field Zapier Submission as a Boolean type. From Salesforce Setup, use the Quick Find box to find Duplicate Rules. Click on the rule name for the object you'd like to edit (for example, Standard Lead Duplicate Rule). Click Edit. Under Conditions, select the newly created field and set up the operator to not equal to a value of “True”. Repeat for both the lead and contact object. (view larger)Set the value for the “Zapier Submission” field in your Zap to “True.” (view larger)Any lead or contact sent to Salesforce will now be excluded from the duplication rule and allow you to keep the alert turned on.

Download a document from an email link URL to use in a zap

I’m posting this as a solution as no one else has (as far as I could tell).My use case is below, but this approach will work for anyone who wants to use Zapier to download a file from a URL in an email, i.e. in the email you receive, the file is NOT an attachment but is available to download via a link in the email. Using the Zapier mail parser you can grab that file and use it in zaps to do what you want with the file (e.g. forward as an attachment in an email, save to Google Drive, etc).The basic overview is this:Auto forward email → Email Parser by Zapier → Zap My problem was with Stripe invoices and receipts – I want to auto-forward the invoice and receipt PDFs on to Dext as attachments in emails (Dext automates the receipts getting to my accounting software, automating much of our bookkeeping). As Stripe doesn’t attach the documents to their receipt emails, I have to manually download them and forward to Dext – which, to me, is not acceptable in 2022.To start, you need to use Emai

How to Retrieve the HTML Version of a Google Doc for Dynamically Editable Email Templates

One of the best ways to send automated emails in Zapier is using an email template. This template can be hardcoded HTML in a send email action step using a Zapier email app such as Gmail or Outlook.However, having this email message hardcoded would be a pain to maintain since the Zap would have to be deactivated if a change to the template was required. Futhermore HTML isn’t user friendly. The person creating or editing the template would have to know how to write HTML code.Wouldn’t it be easier if this template was a beautiful Google Doc instead of HTML?But how do you get that Google Doc to spit out HTML when you need to send it as an HTML email? Hey everyone!I wanted to share a quick tip about an app that I just discovered. I received a notification for this Reddit post in the Zapier subreddit. Are you having trouble receiving emails from Zapier?

Try the below tips to help retrieve your Zapier emails:Check your email’s Spam folderTake a look in your Spam folder to see if the email has accidentally been sent there If you locate our emails, simply unmark them as spam and move them to an alternate folder (Inbox, Zapier, etc). This should prevent any future Zapier messages from being flagged by your email provider. You can also ‘whitelist’ the zapier.com domain so that any emails that end in Zapier.com will make it to your inbox. If your email is provided by your company, you may need to speak to your IT team about this.Search all of your emailsUse your email’s search function to look for any emails from an address that ends in ‘@zapier.com’. [Integration Update] "Advanced Utilities" will allow you to find *all matches* for a RegEx

In this post, I’m happy to announce some updates to my Advanced Utilities integration. [New Integration] Pause and Resume

Happy new year!Have you ever wanted to pause a zap (let's call it zap A), trigger another zap (zap and wait for it to finish before resuming the zap A? I don’t know what techniques you might be using to build this kind of workflow but I know that one way of building it is to split the zap A into 2 zaps and have the second zap trigger the second half once it finished its work.While this might work fine, having a way to pause a zap and resume it at a later time would be nice!Pause and Resume is a custom integration I built just for that. Dynamic Google Sheets Formulas

Figured this workaround out today but have been trying to figure this out for a bit so I thought I would share in case anyone else needed it! This is to create dynamic formulas that will calculate data as rows come in to google sheets. First use the create row step to create the row without the formula fields or with formula fields that are not dynamic. Immediately after this step, add another step to Update a Row. Use the custom tab to insert the row that was created in the previous step for the row to be updated then when you type in your formulas you can insert that same row Id where you would usually reference it in your formula. Voila! I hope that helps!

Using Looping and Digest in one Zap

I love the new Looping functionality and for me, its usefulness is really amplified if you combine it with the Digest functionality. Here is how I used them together in one Zap with some tips & tricks along the way!The use case:Our Sales team wanted to be able to quickly see which users had either activated their account or logged into their account over the past X days on a client-level. Unfortunately, we didn’t have this data in our CRM (Hubspot) so that’s why I used Zapier. Steps:As my trigger, I used a Webhook which my Sales team could send themselves through Hubspot or Slack, and I would find all Associations with that client (unique identifiers of the users).The output of Step 2 are the ID’s of the users as line items which I would use for my Loop:All actions after this would loop and take only one of the line item values (ID’s).I then use this ID to lookup the user in our platform database, check if they have an account, and put them through two different paths:In the No-acc

Zap setup JSON export mapping

I discovered a new feature today (to me anyway) - the ability to export a json file of your zap set-up. To get there click on new info button next to zap title: This will take you to the following page:     I remember there was a way to export this json previously but it was not so front-and-center.  Now that more people will likely be exporting this file can anybody provide a mapping of the json elements with which apps are used etc? (at the moment the json is all very cryptic). If so, it may be possible to do build a zap feeding this data into a diagramming app like Lucid Charts with a pre-built template and have a cool visual flow diagram of every zap - something I’ve been longing for for ages!

How to Rebuild RAW JSON for Code Blocks

THIS IS CONSIDERED ADVANCED and requires Javascript knowledge but solves the issue of rebuilding raw json and line items to use in code without compromising the integrity like a catch raw hook trigger might. Let’s say we have line items returned from a trigger and want to rebuild the original JSON structure to parse in a code block. As a sample, our line items look like the below which results in Zapier merging everything into like fields which can cause issues with null values, nested arrays, text that has commas. The solution!   You can rebuild your raw json text structure using a Formatter step > Utilities > Line Items to Text. Take special consideration of preserving the field types. strings should be surrounded by double quotes “”, if a field was a line item you should surround it with square brackets [], etc… You should get back something that resembles raw json which can then be mapped into a code step surrounded by square brackets allowing you to use things like json.pars

Video - Sorting leads (or anything!) into arrays using Zapier

Hey guys! I've received this question quite a bit: How do I take something like a lead, and sort it into a specific segment or group based off of something like company size? That's a pretty simple challenge if the groups are single entities like A, B, or C, just throw it into the Lookup table in Formatter!Now, what happens if those groups are arrays like 50-100, 101-250, 251-1000? Then it's suddenly more difficult because the Lookup Table can no longer handle it! In this video, I describe a different method for sorting into arrays that is easy enough for anyone to replicate, while also showing a neat way to test these sorts of situations! Enjoy!P.S. I know that you can use either a Code by Zapier step, or an external call to something like Google Sheets to get this done, but I wanted a solution that was self-contained and didn't required minimal coding knowledge :)
