Extracting a .csv from an email for beginners

This is an easy 2 step process for those struggling to retrieve an attachment and utilize that data. FIRST - Make sure that you are retrieving a .csv file and not .xmlx file. Zapier tools don’t play well with .xls or .xmlx to my finding. Select your email source (Gmail for me) and choose “New Attachment”. Your trigger will be where that email is coming from ie Inbox or a specific label. Then input a search string that matches the title for that specific email. Once you have located the record you need. Add the next step and select Formatter by Zapier. Select utilities and choose import CSV. For the CSV file, select “Attachment: Exists but not shown”. From there I chose to put that data into a Google sheet as my terminus. If you are adding to a spreadsheet be sure to add the columns that relate to your data first before selecting the document to parse to. Then just plug in the corresponding line items to the columns that have been created and test your Zap. This has saved me time from c

Ensuring Zaps Finish Successfully Without Task Consumption on Unused Paths

Use Case: The challenge is to configure a Zap where one path completes specific actions, while another path should finish the Zap as successful without consuming tasks. The difficulty lies in preventing the Zap from being marked as "filtered" when a filter is used or avoiding warnings that require additional steps when paths are employed. Using Spreadsheet-style Formula to combine multiple variables into one

My team and I seem to run into this alot with CRMs that have multiple fields for email addresses. Take a look at this screenshot: We're not 100% confident that the Home Email will always have an email address, yet in the next step we need an email address for this lead/contact. So here's the tip I use to solve for this issue. Add a Formatter - Numbers - Spreadsheet-Style Formula step And I use the below formula, remember when dealing with strings or string values in Spreadsheet-style formula you need to surround the values with quotes. if("{{mobile_email}}"="",if("{{home_email}}"="","{{work_email}}","{{home_email}}"),"{{mobile_email}}") In English, that formula says if mobile_email is empty, and home_email is empty use work_email, if mobile_email is empty but home_email is not use home_email, if mobile_email isn't empty use mobile_email. How to Get Line Items/Arrays into Code Steps

Tim here from the Zapier Support Team with a workflow idea! Background If you’re familiar with the Code by Zapier app, you’re probably used to working with all kinds of values, including arrays. In Zapier, arrays are generally called “Line Items” and sometimes it can be tricky to get them into a Code Step unscathed to run them through some custom process. Why is it difficult? All values added to the `Input Data` fields of a Code Step are converted into Strings and sent into the Code Step in that format. Arrays / Line Items get converted into Strings that are comma separated values. While it’s definitely possible to split those comma separated values back into arrays inside the code, we run into problems if the values themselves contain commas. To further complicate things, if we’re sending multiple properties of line items (multiple arrays that relate to each other) and some of the arrays have `null` or empty values, those will be completely dropped, so it can cause our input data to b

Create an RSS feed using Google Docs and update it with a Zap

Disclaimer: This method may not play nicely with all RSS readers out there, so be sure to do some testing. Doing it this way worked for me when using it with an app called Feedwind, so I figured I’d share how I did it. UPDATE: As I was testing this out, to fix something in my own Zap, I hit a limit in Storage by Zapier (the data stored at any given key can’t be more than 25KB. The method below will work for a while — I’ve added dozens of entries — but I’m exploring alternatives, in order to get around the limit. Not long ago, I wanted to include a feed of our featured articles in the Community sidebar. Our Community platform, however, doesn’t provide a feed for forum categories, so I set out to create my own feed and keep it updated using a Zap. Here’s what I came up with. Workaround for Google Sheets updated rows duplicating info

Hi We have a few automations with gsheets. Whenever someone sorts the columns or moves rows, zaps go crazy. I have tried every such workaround Is there anything new to overcome this? Even asking the employees to let me know when its happening, still doesnt always work. I was thinking, can i create a tab in the gsheet that is a simple on/off and when the cell turns to off, the zap will trigger itself to turn itself off. Is this possible? If not, is there another workaround? we dont use airtable or zapier tables. i even tried having zaps send to airtable or zapier tables and then zap from there, but it still duplicated and didnt do the job

Microsoft PowerApps Dataverse custom tables in Zapier using API Request in Microsoft Dynamics 365 to GET, POST & PATCH

I’m writing this summary because it took me a bit of effort figure this out and I could see that a lot of people are trying to do this, but I couldn’t find the basics. I’ve built a bespoke Microsoft Dataverse database for a PowerApps app and I want to access it from Zapier to SELECT/GET, INSERT/POST & UPDATE/PATCH. The good news is that Zapiers API Request in Microsoft Dynamics 365 App does the job easily when you know how. We DON’T have a Dynamics 365 subscription, but I noticed that each DataVerse DBs Web API endpoint URL is a Dynamics.com URL so I tried it and it works. Setup For all three tasks the setup is basically the same. Use the built in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Zapier App Chose the API Request Event type Authenticate through it’s built in OAuth2 setup Put the DataVerse DBs Web API endpoint URL, plus you’ll need to add the “logical name” of the relevant table on the end of the API Endpoint URL (see example below). Simplify your Filter steps by using the '(Text is in)' condition

If you’ve ever seen this option in a Filter step: … and you’ve wondered what the heck it is, I’m about to tell you :) The More Complex Method Let’s say you want to see if a field contains one of several possible values. You could use multiple OR operators, but this can quickly become unwieldy and cumbersome. A Much Simpler Option Instead, you can use (Text) Is In to check whether the value you’ve mapped is in the list of values that you specify. It’s cleaner, faster to create, and easier to maintain :) Hope this helps!

Zapier Utils: Find Zap by Webhook URL [Chrome Extension]

Hi everyone, I have recently answered a question about finding a zap that is associated with a webhook URL without having to open every single zap to look for which one contains the webhook URL. So I wrote a script that can actually scan all the zaps and then outputs the zap URL that is associated with webhook URL provided by the user. This obviously requires the user to open the Browser dev tools then paste the script and replace the webhook URL before executing the script. I thought this had to be simpler, so I went ahead and built an open source Chrome extension for it. I hope this can be helpful for anybody who might need it. How to get live sample data if your Trigger isn't getting the right valuesvideo

Hey folks, it’s Tim here from Premier Support with another Workflow for you! If you’ve ever been trying to set up a Zap but you weren’t able to get the correct Sample Data pulled into the Trigger, I’ve recorded a 5 minute video to show how to work around this problem. You can watch it here: To summarize the process in the video: Create two Zaps: Zap 1: The Trigger you want to use Webhooks by Zapier: POST Action Zap 2: Webhooks by Zapier Catch Hook Trigger Then: Copy the URL from Zap 2’s Trigger Open the POST Action in Zap 1 Paste the URL from Zap 2’s Trigger into the URL field Set the Payload Type field to Json Turn Zap 1 on Trigger Zap 1 Test Zap 2’s Trigger and you will see your Live Zap Equivalent Sample data pulled in. Build the rest of your Zap in Zap 2. When running Zap 2, Zap 1 must also be turned on. The video ends there, but I wanted to mention one more advanced tip. Once you’re sure you won’t need to edit Zap 2 for a while, you can replace the Catch Hook Trigger in Zap 2 with

Append data to fields instead of overwriting what’s there

A lot of users ask whether it’s possible to append data into a field instead of overwriting existing data, so I thought I would break that down a bit. Luckily, when it is possible, it’s not actually that difficult to do. First, let’s look at some examples of when you might want to do this: you’ve got a CRM and would like to record each time a customer purchases something from your online store you have a Description or Notes field in your app and want to add to it instead of replacing the existing text Before jumping into the details of how to accomplish this, I do want to offer a couple of caveats. The way we do it is by first looking up whichever item you want to update, so if the app integration doesn’t have a search action that supports that, I’m afraid you won’t be able to use this workflow. And you’ll also need an Update action (as opposed to just a Create action). Example If you wanted to update a Description field for someone in your CRM, you would need something like Find Cont
