Jira Cloud issue edited trigger, how to reliably determine what was edited.

This conversation is more of a “Howto” than a question. I haven’t found much in the Zapier community on how to filter based off of what was edited on an issue, so I thought it would be helpful to others. The below information has been tested on Jira Software Cloud, so I’m not sure how correct it is for Jira Server. IntroductionCurrently with Zapier’s platform, they only have three different triggers, An issue being created, an issue being created with JQL, and an issue being edited. With the “issue edited” trigger, there is no way to determine what was edited, and all that is returned is the full breadth of the ticket as if it was returned in JSON format from an API.This makes the “issue edited” trigger almost useless without filters considering I don’t know of anybody that would want a zap to trigger every time some small change occurs on an issue. How to Rebuild RAW JSON for Code Blocks

THIS IS CONSIDERED ADVANCED and requires Javascript knowledge but solves the issue of rebuilding raw json and line items to use in code without compromising the integrity like a catch raw hook trigger might. Let’s say we have line items returned from a trigger and want to rebuild the original JSON structure to parse in a code block. As a sample, our line items look like the below which results in Zapier merging everything into like fields which can cause issues with null values, nested arrays, text that has commas. The solution! You can rebuild your raw json text structure using a Formatter step > Utilities > Line Items to Text. Take special consideration of preserving the field types. strings should be surrounded by double quotes “”, if a field was a line item you should surround it with square brackets [], etc… You should get back something that resembles raw json which can then be mapped into a code step surrounded by square brackets allowing you to use things like json.pars

Hello, I'd like to share an idea about mark dependences of zap actions. Working in zap we delete and edit its actions . Deleting or editing an action will delete or change its output. To easily find out which actions depend on the output of a particular action, it would be helpful to have some indication of this relationship. For example, we could include a mark next to the action's title that shows the numbering of actions that use the output of that action. Similarly, it would also be useful to see which actions provide input to a particular action. Please see the screenshot attached. For instance, if action #8 depends on actions #1 and #3, and actions #9 and #11 depend on the output of action #8, this relationship could be shown visually on the interface. So, as soon as you will delete the output of action #8 from actions #9 and #11, at the output block of action #8 there would be nothing. Different Ways to Create a Unique Random String within your Zap

Creating a random string to be used as an order/invoice ID (or anything else for that matter) is something that can be done pretty easily. Here's @nicksimard's approach:Pick a Formatter step and choose Numbers -- Spreadsheet-Style Formula. Then use RANDBETWEEN:The odds of ever having a duplicate are extremely low. If you wanted to, you could create two of these steps then combine the mapped fields, to make it even more unique, but there's probably no need.You could also create a Pick From List, choose random and have some preset options to choose from that you can add to the randomly generated number.Like this:OR, yet another way is to either use a field from the Trigger (or prior step) on its own, or combined with the randomly generated string: Hope this gives you some inspiration for how to randomly generate a string! Webhook action add reactions in Slack

Hi Community!I thought I would share here how to create a Zap that can add reactions to messages filtered through keywords using Filter and Webhook actions. Instant Gmail (or Outlook email) Triggers

Triggering Zapier from an email can be an effective way to integrate with systems like Realtor.com, Venmo, Airbnb, or any other app that doesn’t have a Zapier integration yet. Often times, lead response time is critical and all of the Gmail Zapier triggers are scheduled (1-15 minute delay depending on your plan). Simple QR Code generator app integration

As far as I can tell, there are scant few QR Code generating apps that integrate with Zapier.I wanted to generate static QR Codes. i.e., I don’t need them to link to a website that can then be redirected later.I wanted to generate LOTS of QR Codes. Which made this model fundamentally incompatible with a service that limits you to a couple hundred codes a month.So I made a really really simple app that uses the “.toString()” function of node-qrcode to generate codes. They work fine as long as it goes into a fixed-width font with zero space between the lines. Perfect for using with a Google Docs template.
