Unable to get dynamic content to Mailchimp transactional HTML template

Hi - thought this related topic would solve my problem. But it doesnt seem to be working for me as it worked for others, I must be doing something wrong. I am looking to get dynamic content from the first step of my zap into the mailchimp transactional HTML template I am using. Please help.  Here is how i have it configured in both my step and HTML Template. Please help - Thanks!

This is how merge tags are structured in the email template.

Example: *|MERGE|*
