I have created my first Zap to take the name and email address from JoinbyText and then creating a contact in Kajabi.  The Zap tests fine, but when I use it in real life, not so much. (Yes, the Zap is published and turned on).  I feel like the zap does not get initiated on the JointoText side.  What should I do?

@BarryP

Good question.

Zaps work while turned ON for new data going forward.

Check your Zap Runs history details for errors and to see the DATA IN/OUT for each Zap step to help you troubleshoot: https://zapier.com/app/history/

Troy,

Thanks for responding.  The Zap is on and the history shows a success for the three tests I ran inside Zapier.  But when I run the Joinbytext app the new subscription never even gets registered by Zap as even happening.  Those attempts do show in the JoinbyText database, but it looks like Zap is never triggered (it is an instant trigger, btw). Zapier shows that everything is working, but somehow the event on the JoinbyText side never triggers the Zap at all. Am I missing a step in the Zap somehow?

@BarryP

Make sure you are testing under the correct conditions that will trigger the Zap. (see screenshot)

If you manually test in the Zap Editor when you are configuring the Zap steps, then those won’t show in the Zap Runs: https://zapier.com/app/history/

Most apps on Zapier are built and maintained by the app developers themselves, so you may have to reach out to Join By Text for help troubleshooting. (support@joinbytext.com)

interesting.  Do you think that the fact that I ask for their full name followed by the email causes the problem? Is the Zap only looks for the Keyword and email address so the name throws it off and doesn’t trigger because of the name being in there?

@BarryP

We’d have to see detailed screenshots with how your Zap steps are configured.

If the Zap is not triggered in the first place, then it could be due to:

  1. User testing issue
  2. Zap trigger step config issue
  3. Zap app integration issue
  4. Zap app connection issue
  5. Zap platform issue (e.g. Zap Run queue backed up)
  6. App issue
  7. App plan limitations

I just tried it with email address only.  No difference.  Bummer

Best best might be to reach out to JBT: support@joinbytext.com

Actually, try following this guide for a workaround using webhooks: https://www.joinbytext.com/using-join-text-webhook/
