I stumbled across a question asked in Community recently which got me thinking about whether there was better way to get a count of the number of reactions a Slack message has had:This question has been asked before, e.g. here:https://community.zapier.com/general-questions-3/trigger-zap-based-on-number-of-reactions-2324The proposed solutions are cumbersome, though.I wondered if it would be possible to let the zap add a `:check:` reaction as a latch, and then check for the existence of that reaction. However I couldn't see how to check for the existence of a reaction. Does anyone know of a way? How to Rebuild RAW JSON for Code Blocks

THIS IS CONSIDERED ADVANCED and requires Javascript knowledge but solves the issue of rebuilding raw json and line items to use in code without compromising the integrity like a catch raw hook trigger might. Let’s say we have line items returned from a trigger and want to rebuild the original JSON structure to parse in a code block. As a sample, our line items look like the below which results in Zapier merging everything into like fields which can cause issues with null values, nested arrays, text that has commas. The solution! You can rebuild your raw json text structure using a Formatter step > Utilities > Line Items to Text. Take special consideration of preserving the field types. strings should be surrounded by double quotes “”, if a field was a line item you should surround it with square brackets [], etc… You should get back something that resembles raw json which can then be mapped into a code step surrounded by square brackets allowing you to use things like json.pars

How to set default values in Code Steps and avoid errors for missing values

Hi there! Tim here from the Zapier Support Team with a way to improve your Code by Zapier Steps. A common question that I see relating to Code Steps is how to prevent them from erroring when a value mapped into the Input Data fields sometimes comes through as empty. Let’s consider this Python Code Step: If we try to test it, we get KeyError: 'value3' This is because when the contents of an Input Data field are empty, the key for that particular field isn’t created in the input_data object, so we’re trying to access something that isn’t there. The Input Data fields from the example above would create an object in the Code environment that looks like this: input_data = {"value1”: "hello", "value2": "world} We can see that because value3 was empty, it wasn’t added to the input_data object. Knowing this, we can catch the error and assign a default value instead. In Python, this could look like a try: except: Block. For example: This gives us the following result: As you can see,

Hi All,I recently launched a new integration app on Zapier. Vybit sends distinct, custom sound notifications that you create by choosing from thousands of possible sounds (from freesound.org). The idea is that the specific notification sound itself tells you exactly what Zap trigger fired (and if making the effort to grab and look at your device for the notification details is warranted). With this function, we can easily take information that comes to us from one app and transform it into corresponding information that we can send to another app.For example, let’s say you have an e-commerce store and you want to add each purchase to your accounting software. How to filter an array or line items using a Code Step

Hi there, this is Erin Oz from the Zapier Support Team with another workflow idea to share!Often a user wants to perform actions in their Zap only on certain items in an array. The Filter by Zapier step does not filter each item in an array, so the solution here is to use a Code Step. You can use the filter method in Javascript to only allow the items you’d like to pass into the next steps of your Zap. ExampleThis user has a Zap that triggers on a call ending. They would like to send a survey to all call participants that do not work at their company. What we’ll do here is use the filter method to only allow email addresses to continue in the Zap if they do not contain the @zapier.com domain. For example, let’s pretend we have a trigger step that returns an array of five email addresses - three of them end with @zapier.com, so we’d like to filter those out of the actions that come next. [Integration Update] "Advanced Utilities" will allow you to find *all matches* for a RegEx

In this post, I’m happy to announce some updates to my Advanced Utilities integration. The problem? There’s no “Get/Lookup Graph” type of Action or other way to pull that in. The SolutionGoogle Sheets and Google Docs both have a neat feature called “Publish Document” that let you create a link to a version of your document or a specific part of it. You can make spreadsheets and documents available as downloadable CSVs, PDFs, Microsoft formats, and more.Once published, the “published” version will be updated at least every 5 minutes to reflect changes in the source document. Different Ways to Create a Unique Random String within your Zap

Creating a random string to be used as an order/invoice ID (or anything else for that matter) is something that can be done pretty easily. Here's @nicksimard's approach:Pick a Formatter step and choose Numbers -- Spreadsheet-Style Formula. Then use RANDBETWEEN:The odds of ever having a duplicate are extremely low. If you wanted to, you could create two of these steps then combine the mapped fields, to make it even more unique, but there's probably no need.You could also create a Pick From List, choose random and have some preset options to choose from that you can add to the randomly generated number.Like this:OR, yet another way is to either use a field from the Trigger (or prior step) on its own, or combined with the randomly generated string: Hope this gives you some inspiration for how to randomly generate a string! Things NOT to do on Google Sheets that are involved in live zaps

Google Sheets is an AWESOME app, that I use loads. However those of you who use it a lot may have experienced your zaps breaking after someone (maybe a team member or customer) edits the sheet in certain ways.Here is what I do when I set up Google Sheets for customers:I always create a Worksheet at the very beginning titled "Instructions":This is the standard text I use:This may seem a bit draconian, but unfortunately I have run into issues with these with so many different permutations that it's difficult to narrow them down. One of the permutations, for example, related to whether the connected Google account was a standard account or part of G Suite. Today I want to share a formula that lets you pick a specific value from a set of line items, even if you’re not sure of the order or number of line items that are going to come in.Let’s say you’re triggering on a new purchase, maybe from Shopify or Square, and you’re getting some of the data as line items. You need only one of those line items, like a specific piece of metadata about a purchase, the shipping cost, or additional fees. But!
