Whisper AI Repeating Words/Phrases

I’m having difficulties where WhisperAI will attempt to transcribe a recorded call, but then end up endlessly looping around a particular phrase/word. It happens more when a caller is transferred between handlers (prompting hold music) but not always. It seems to be hit-and-miss as well, as sometimes it will work fine if I re-try with a file that previously had the issue.

 

I’ve tried tinkering with the settings in the Zap, but no real success there. Nothing changes if I do/don’t have a prompt, or if I change the output format at all, or the Temperature.

 

I’ve seen other threads that mention this issue, but they’re all closed/old. Hoping this is fixed?!

It appears like you’re running into the same bug that was discussed over here:

I can’t provide any timelines for fixes, but I’ve added you to the list of affected users so you’ll receive an email notification once it’s resolved.

In the meantime, I’d suggest exploring whether an AI by Zapier action could be used for the transcription instead. I couldn’t see an option to select Whisper specifically, but it’s got a Transcribe option that you could potentially use to transcribe the call:

That output usually means Whisper isn’t getting clean audio to transcribe.

A few quick things to check:

• Make sure you’re passing a direct, downloadable audio file URL, not a preview or expiring link.
• Try converting the file to a standard format like WAV or MP3 before the Whisper step.
• Remove any prompt text in the Whisper step and test with it blank.
• If it’s a long recording, try splitting it into smaller chunks.

If you can share a screenshot of the Whisper step inputs with sensitive info blurred, we can help spot what’s going on.
