Slack file hydration issues

Is anyone else having issues moving files with Slack?

I have had Zaps that have been working for YEARS and now they are all broken, so this is not a first time zap troubleshoot.

Here are some examples:

New File in Slack -  PDF.co  : error
New File in Slack -  Google Drive : error (or it creates a black file)

I am also unable to find an actual record when testing. It will find a made up record that doesn’t exist. so I can not even do a proper test of the issue.

When I go back to the legacy version of slack it works. I c an also find a record that actually exists in a slack channel.

Would love some help with this.

Ben

Hi @Benwillski

Might be worth opening a ticket with Zapier Support to investigate: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

I have. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue with the new slack.

Hi @Benwillski,

Welcome to the Community.

If you're having issues with Slack's integration with Zapier for file transfers, ensure both apps are updated, re-establish the Slack-Zapier connection, and verify that Zapier has the required permissions in Slack. Test with different file types to pinpoint the problem. If the issue persists, contact Zapier's support team, primarily if the Zaps work with the legacy Slack version, as this may indicate changes in Slack's API or integration capabilities.

Let us know if you have further questions. We're happy to assist you.

Experiencing the same, uploaded files turn to gibberish after updating to the new slack integration version, they should fix this ASAP.

Hi @maxrein,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, we are still looking further with Slack and we are still waiting for any update regarding with the issue. For now the workaround will be using the Legacy version of Slack.

Thanks, I’ve rolled back to the legacy version, thankfully that was still supported.

Hi @Benwillski and @maxrein 👋

I just came across this can see that there’s a bug report that was opened recently regarding this issue where Slack files are not being properly hydrated by the newer version of the Slack app on Zapier. While we can’t provide a timeline for a fix, I’ve added you both to the bug report, so you’ll be notified via email as soon as it’s sorted.

At present the only workaround appears to be, as Jammer noted, to continue using the legacy version of the Slack app.

We’ll be sure to follow up here when there’s any change in the status of bug—thanks for your patience in the meantime! 🙂

I suddenly have a somewhat similar issue. I have a Zap which emails me any Slack message which I “Save”. In the last week I get Zap alert:
“Error while hydrating data from Slack: Your Slack account on Zapier is expired/invalid. Please reconnect it to fix this.”

I reconnected and republished the zap and doesn’t help.  Do you think it’s the same issue?

If so how do I find the “legacy” Slack app for Mac please?

Hi there, @zsch! 👋

Do you think it’s the same issue?

Possibly, although the error you’ve listed seems to indicate that there was an issue with the Slack account connection, so I’ve not added you to the bug report just yet. 🤔 Did you see a different error after reconnecting the account or did it continue to say “Error while hydrating data from Slack: Your Slack account on Zapier is expired/invalid. Please reconnect it to fix this.”?

Also, how are you saving the files? Are you adding a reaction to them and using the New Reaction trigger? Or are you using the New File trigger in your Zap?

If so how do I find the “legacy” Slack app for Mac please?

You’d need to change the app version within the Zap itself:

  1. Go to the Setup section of the Zap’s trigger.
  2. In the App field click on the Change button to the right of the selected app.
  3. Type in Slack into the search field to filter the results and click on the app named Slack (Legacy) to select it.

Can you give that a try and let me know if switching to the legacy version of the Slack app resolves things in your case as well?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for following up @SamB .

So I didn’t receive any error when connecting the accounts and no error testing and publishing the zap.

I received notification of the error by email from Zapier a while after every time I saved a slack item triggering the Zap.

I am saving using the “Save for later” icon in slack which looks like a bookmark to trigger the Zap.

And good news… switching the Zap to use Slack (legacy) does seem to have fixed my problem too!

Thanks
