"Invalid auth connection" error when testing Stripe trigger in Zapier

I am getting an error when testing my stripe trigger. I’m a newbie to zapier but it looks like the stripe account is connected, but can pull transactions and I get this error: Unable to pull checkouts Please reload the page. If the issue persists, troubleshoot error or contact Support. Error code: Error while retrieving: Invalid auth connection. Please reconnect your Stripe account to Zapier.
I have reconnected several times and nothing happens.

Hi there @gbucci 👋

I saw you reached out to our Support team and they were able to help get this resolved. Sharing the key details from their response in case it’s helpful to others that run into that “Invalid auth connection” error as well:

I've investigated your Zap and found the root cause of the issue. The authentication error isn't actually a connection problem—it's due to an invalid API key format. Looking at the error logs, Stripe is returning this specific error: "Invalid API Key provided: XXXXXXXX*XXXX"

This suggests the API key being used has been truncated or modified somehow. Here's what you'll want to do:

  1. Remove your current Stripe connection from your Zapier account by going to My Apps and disconnecting Stripe
  2. Get a fresh API key from your Stripe dashboard (make sure it's the complete, untruncated key)
  3. Reconnect Stripe using the new API key

To help you through the complete setup process, here's our comprehensive guide: How to get started with Stripe on Zapier. This will walk you through getting the correct API key from Stripe and setting up the connection properly.

Once you've reconnected with a fresh, complete API key, your Zap should test successfully.

Seems like you’re all set for now but please do reach back out if there’s anything thing else we can help with.

In the meantime, happy Zapping! 😁⚡

Hey @gbucci,

Here is a helpful article about getting started with Stripe in Zapier- https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496161863693-How-to-get-started-with-Stripe-on-Zapier

Some of the prerequisites required for connecting Stripe-

  • An activated Stripe account.
  • A paid Stripe plan.
  • Administrator permissions on your Stripe account.

Hope it helps!

Hi @gbucci

Which Stripe Zap trigger are you using?

Try testing IN Stripe a new checkout, then try testing Zap step 1 again to pull thru the example record data.
