Asana start date missing

Hey,

Is there any plan to integrate Start Date to the Asana create/update tasks tools?

The best I’ve found is to create a separate webhook and do it manually, which sounds like a huge hassle not in line with the core of Zapier.

I have seen another similar question, with a non-answer and is now locked.

Hoping to raise some attention to this topic to see if it can be added, or if we should expect integrations with tools such as Asana to be outdated and perhaps avoid building those in Zapier?

Hi @AdamGudmundsson

This is likely why the Asana Zap app integration does not yet support Start Date/Time:

Start dates and start times are Asana Premium Features that enable teams with complex workflows to effectively schedule tasks across multiple days or even down to the minute.

https://asana.com/guide/help/premium/start-dates-and-start-times

The workaround would be to leverage the Asana API: https://developers.asana.com/docs/create-a-task

App APIs can be used in Zaps with the Webhooks app as an action step: https://zapier.com/apps/webhook/integrations

FYI: Most apps on Zapier are built and maintained by the app developers themselves, Zapier keeps an internal list of app requests.

Feedback and feature requests can be made via a ticket to Zapier Support to be logged: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

Welcome to the Community, @AdamGudmundsson

I see we have an internal feature request open for the ability to support the Start Date field on Asana triggers and actions so I’ve added your vote for that. I can’t make any promises as to when it will be added but we’ll contact you by email as soon as it is.

In the meantime, using a Webhooks by Zapier step to create/update the tasks in Asana via Asana’s API would be a good workaround to try.

If it helps, I wrote up a guide on how to duplicate projects in Asana via a webhook so you could follow that for the most part. But you’d need to use the Create a task endpoint (https://app.asana.com/api/1.0/tasks) instead of the Duplicate a project one referenced in the guide. And also, the data field would need to be altered to reflect the fields that are used for when creating a task in Asana. More details on those fields can be found here: Asana API - Create a task

Also, Jared has written a guide on how to update existing tasks in Asana via webhooks. It specifically talks about updating custom fields but you could use the same principles for updating other fields too:

Hope that helps! :relaxed:

Hey folks,

I have good news - task start dates are now supported in the latest version of the Asana app on Zapier! 😁🎉

One thing to note is that in order to set a start date on the Create Task and Update Task actions you must first set a due date. As soon as the Due at field has a value, the Start date type and Start at fields will appear:

That said, if you run into any trouble accessing or using those new start date fields in your Zap please do let us know. In the meantime, happy Zapping! ⚡
