I’m attempting to make the association based off Stew’s second step in this post but cannot make the association in my testing.
I’ll be forever grateful if you can look at my setup pictured here and see if there’s anything I’m doing wrong.
My assumption was this association worked by searching for any contacts in HubSpot with deal ID matching the one pictured.

Good question.
You have these fields switched.
You have a Deal ID but are trying to look for a Contact, thus nothing will be found.
Also, change this from Deal to Contact.
In my Zap, I have the object types reversed: the “type of object I search the association” is Deal, and the “type of object the from object is being associated with” is Contact. Cryptic wording, I know. Try flipping those and see if it works for you.
