I’m making a website that sells courses to teach you how to code. It’s subscription-based, and I’m integrating the data from my Gumroad page. I wanted to make a Zap that removes my customer’s access to the Google Doc after they unsubscribe. I found the Add File Sharing Preference, but I can’t find the one that removes it. Is there a simple way to do it? I’m not looking to pay for Zapier at the moment.

Hi @ripplecoding, welcome to the Zapier community 👋

Unfortunately, Zapier doesn’t currently have a direct “Remove File Sharing Preference” action for Google Docs. However, there could be an advanced alternative, but it would require a paid Zapier plan (webhooks are considered a premium feature):

Use a Google Script:

• Google Apps Script allows you to programmatically manage sharing settings for Google Docs. You can write a simple script that removes a user’s access based on their email address.

Combine with a Gmail Zap:

• Use a Zapier integration with Gmail to monitor subscription cancellations (e.g., an email from Gumroad).

• Add an action to forward the email data (like the unsubscribed customer’s email address) to a Google Sheet or directly to your Apps Script via a webhook.

Hope this helps 😊

Hi @ripplecoding,

I'm afraid this isn't currently possible with the Google Drive app. I apologize, and I definitely understand how helpful that would be.

I've submitted this as a feature request to the team in charge of this integration on your behalf.

Our team will review the request and determine if we need any additional information from you.

Here’s what’s happening next:

  1. Feature Request Logging: I have logged your request in our internal issue tracking system and added your email to the notification list for this issue.
  2. Timing: The Google Drive Integration team will be notified immediately of the request. However, I won’t be able to provide an exact timeline for when this will be added, as only their team can implement a fix.

Keeping You in the Loop:

  • Email Updates: We'll email you as soon as we identify a fix or workaround. This will include any steps you might need to take on your end, such as updating your Zap.

Hey all, just wanted to pop in here to share that the feature request has been implemented! 😁

It’s now possible to remove a user’s access to a file using the Remove File Permission action:

If you run into any issues with that Remove File Permission action, feel free to start a new topic or reach out to our Support team directly for assistance.

In the meantime, happy Zapping! ⚡
