Difference between a Zap and a task?

Hello,

I’m a marketer who recently signed up for a free Zapier account to help connect a webinar solution to our Hubspot platform in order to using HS landing pages and register folks to the webinar system.  It’s all working great but the question is - is there a difference between a Zap and a task? Under the free account listing, on the pricing and plans page, it’s say 50 tasks per month, but 5 Zaps, so I’m just not sure what account I should be using when I probably need no more than 10 active zaps a month maximum.

Thanks.

Hi @CharlieMarketer

Check out these help articles:

https://zapier.com/help/create/basics/learn-key-concepts-in-zapier

https://zapier.com/help/manage/history/learn-about-tasks-in-zapier

Zaps have a trigger and 1+ actions steps.

Tasks are counted as successfully completed actions steps in a Zap.

Plans have different features which can be compared here: https://zapier.com/app/billing/plans

Hey all! I just wanted to pop in here to help further clarify the difference between Zaps and tasks.

A Zap is our term for an automated workflow. It includes one trigger (something that happens in one app that will start the workflow), and at least one action (something that the Zap does automatically for you).

Each time a Zap is triggered, that starts a run in which runs the Zap’s actions in sequence. Each time an action successfully does something (like sends an SMS, or updates a contact), that uses one task. You can use the Zap history page to see each time your Zaps run, and how many tasks are used each time.

The plan you would need depends on your overall usage (how many Zaps you have running, how many tasks they use etc). Each plan supports a different number of active Zaps (meaning you can make as many Zaps as you like, but can only turn a certain number on), and a different number of tasks that those Zaps can perform each month. You can compare the available plans and features on our Plans & Pricing page.

And here are some links to find out more about Zaps, tasks and how it all works:
