How to transcribe a Spotify podcast episode using OpenAI?

Great question—while Spotify’s integration lets you get notified when an episode is played, it doesn’t provide direct access to the audio file. But no worries! Here’s an alternative approach to achieve your workflow:

1. Trigger: New Played Track on Spotify

   • Start by using the New Played Track trigger for Spotify to get notified when a new podcast episode is played. This step gives you the episode URL, which you can include in the rest of the workflow.

   

2. Action: To notify you to Download the Audio File

   • Since Spotify doesn’t allow direct downloading of episodes via Zapier, you can manually or automatically download the episode using the provided URL. Tools or services for downloading Spotify or podcast audio files may come in handy here.

3. Upload to Google Drive

   • Once the audio file is downloaded, upload it to Google Drive. You can use the Google Drive integration to make this step part of your workflow.

4. Create New Zap - Trigger: New File in Google Drive

   • After uploading the file to Google Drive, you’ll likely need a second Zap triggered by the appearance of a new file in Google Drive. This second Zap can continue the workflow by:
     • Transcribing the audio file using OpenAI.
     • Processing the transcript with ChatGPT for summaries or insights.
     • Sending the final output via Gmail.

5. Transcribe the Audio with OpenAI

   • Use OpenAI to transcribe the audio. With the file in Google Drive, OpenAI can process it into text using the OpenAI integration.

   

6. Run Your Prompt with ChatGPT

   • Once transcribed, run a custom prompt with ChatGPT. This could include summarizing the episode, extracting key points, or creating captions for social media.

7. Send the Output via Gmail

   • Finally, send the results via Gmail using the Gmail integration.

   

Note: As highlighted here, AI-driven transcription services are perfect for these tasks, even if there’s no direct Zapier connection to Spotify.
