I have Trello Board with Custom Fields

These CustomFields are Optional

Issue: Zapier is not mapping custom fields ( key : value ) pairs correctly. It just creates randomised keys ( Custom Fields xyz, Custom Fields asb, etc...) and associates NO values to those keys.

My Zap requirement

  • Trigger: When a Trello Card’s Custom Fields’s Staffing Plan ( Trello Card > Custom Fields > Staffing Plan ) is updated ( which usually happens much later in that card’s life on the board)
  • Action:
    • Fetch the card and get
      • Card Name
      • Card URL
      • Card Creator
      • Staffing Plan ( Trello Card > Custom Fields > Staffing Plan )
    • Send a direct slack message & set reminder with above information to the PMO with some details ( not important for this conversation)

Hi @Ujay

Make sure to use a Trello Card ID example that has values populated for those custom fields as that should help you search by the custom field value to then map variables across Zap steps.

@Troy Tessalone Thanks ! It did work for step1 where CardUpdated Trigger returned populated “Custom Fields Staffing Plan”

But those values did not sustain in the next step.
In the step2 ( filter ), I wanted to continue only IF “Custom Fields Staffing Plan” has a value.
But checking the conditional fields in “Trigger”, I was not able to access any custom fields.

** As confirmed from step1, I pulled the card with all possible fields populated, so ideally step2 should have them all populated **

@Ujay

The screenshots do not show an actual correlation with the returned Trello Card ID from Zap step 1 for the selected record in the TEST tab and the matching Trello Card in Trello with those field values populated.

  • Zapier is still not able to find the custom fields of the trello card

Key is to just continue with your next steps ( Actions )
    •  There you can use Custom Fields value available ( weird )
  • Now go back to your previous step and check out “in-use variables”
    • There I can find my custom fields variable and used it

Glad to see Troy was able to help point you in the right direction, @Ujay—thanks @Troy Tessalone! 🤗

Really appreciate you following up to share the steps you took to select the custom field values. I haven’t come across that behavior before—hopefully it was just a glitch. If field values continue to not appear in the selected test record though but do show up in the action steps when setting up the Zap, I’d recommend reaching out to our Support team to have that investigated further in case it’s a bug with the Zap editor.

Looks like you’ve got things sorted, but feel free to reach back out if you need help with anything else. In the meantime, happy Zapping! ⚡️
