I have a zap as pictured.

Stage 1 triggers on a newly labelled message

Stage 2 works fine

Stage 3 successfully uploads the the plain text from the email to google drive as a google docs document

Stage 4 uses the exportlinks/pdf to save a pdf copy alongside the google docs version. This fails with error message “unauthorized”

Stage 5 uses the exportlinks/pdf to email a pdf copy. This also fails with error message “unauthorized”
Stage 6 works fine

The failure happens with other export links options such as zip, but doesn’t happen if you just use the file output.

I’ve reconnected my connected apps in https://zapier.com/app/connections and running test connection returns ‘test successful’.

Testing the exportlink url that zapier receives as in input in the browser search bar downloads the pdf successfully (when signed into my google suite).

Adding an extra zap stage to set the file permissions to ‘anyone on the internet can view’ does fix the issue, but this seems a bit of a hack and doesn’t conform with GDPR etc. Plus, there doesn’t seem to a be an ‘unshare’ option to hide the file after the fudge has been performed even if i was willing to do it.

Is there a way to do this with google drive that doesn’t involve revealing the file to the big wide world?

Thanks,

Hi @KeldAmpworks

Help us have more info by posting screenshots showing how your Zap steps are configured in EDIT mode with the field mappings visible.

Thanks @Troy Tessalone . Here are the screen shots from my zaps. Note that the stage 6 in these screenshots is the stage 4 from the previous screenshot as I have been experimenting unsuccessfully with permissions as previously mentioned.

@KeldAmpworks

The file needs to be publicly accessible to use the file link.

Try instead to use the file objects.

Those variables looks like: File (exists but not shown)

Thanks @Troy Tessalone . Unfortunately if I do that I don’t get the pdf, which is what I’m after here.

@KeldAmpworks

If you are not able to get the file uploaded using the export file link or the temp file object, then that would likely be related to GDrive file permissions.

That’s not what I’m saying. I can use file, but not exportlink pdf.

But if I use file then it doesn’t create a pdf.

Hi @KeldAmpworks,

Could you please confirm if which file extension is being created if you’re using the File (exists but not shown) data? This will help us take a closer look at the issue that you’re encountering.

Thank you!
