Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out here.

I am creating a Zap where it pulls information out of our Inventory system filters for a condition and continues on a path depending on if it find the list item in Sharepoint.

Both paths are set up exactly the same have the same Site and List data.

Create List Item works, is able to add to the sharepoint list no issues.

Update List Item is not working and returning Error Code 404: 404 File not found.

Action event: Update List Item

I have checked all permissions in Sharepoint and they are all open for Zapier and user.

Hoping someone is able to guide me into the right area here.

Hey @Keralie ,

Can you post screenshot of the error from Zapier History? Also post the data in values also here

Hi - I'm experiencing the same issue here. I've compared it to an older Zap where it's working correctly, but can't find any differences between the two Zaps. Maybe a bug?

Hope to find a solution soon.

Got the solution—this helped: https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/33267983804429-Microsoft-SharePoint-error-404-FILE-NOT-FOUND#01JH062E0CQ6H4TQ7WQM99XDQY

Just set the "Site" field to "Custom" and manually enter the SharePoint URL (the part after /Site/). In your case, enter "Operations". After that, it worked perfectly!

Hey @jayeshkumarbhatia,

Hope this helps.

@NM-Apart Unfortunately this did not work.

Still received the same error.

I am able to delete, create do everything else but update.

Have checked all permissions and they are all on edit.

Hi @Keralie,

It looks like you have reached out to our Support Team regarding this issue and they determined that you’re encountering a bug here. Unfortunately, we can’t provide an exact ETA for the bug’s fix. We will keep you updated via email once it is.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

A 404 error when updating SharePoint list items via Zapier usually means the item or list can’t be found. Double-check these:

  1. List URL: Ensure the SharePoint site and list name are correct and accessible.

  2. Item ID: Make sure you’re using the correct ID of the list item you want to update.

  3. Permissions: Confirm the connected Microsoft account has edit access to that list.

  4. Zapier Action Setup: Re-test the trigger and double-check dynamic fields—sometimes wrong values can cause a 404.

If you require more help in this issue you can reach out at this recommended Zapier automation experts.

Thank you for posting this. I was going crazy trying to figure this out. My workaround was to create a path and delete the record and readd it. Not a great solution but it works under the circumstances.

I have been able to do a solution not ideal but it works.

I have done an API Request with using Patch method.

Took a little to work it all out, but it works!

Great work in getting a workaround in place, @JJS-mlt and @Keralie! 🙌 So glad you both were able to get your Zaps back up and running, even if the solutions aren’t ideal. Really appreciate you both sharing details of the workarounds—I’m sure others who come across this will find it helpful! 🧡

@JJS-mlt, even though you’ve got a workaround in place, I’ve gone ahead and added you to the list of affected users to help increase the issue’s priority. You can expect an email from us as soon as it’s resolved.

I’m having the same issue. Double checked everything and searching, pasting the custom url didn’t seem to help either.

Have checked all the permissions, etc. but it would be helpful if there was a patch to this. I’ve tried various other ways to grab the list ID using various functions to no avail. It appears as though the update list item for sharepoint is buggy. Will be monitoring this one.

Hi @docb76,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the "Update List Item" action in SharePoint. Make sure your connected account has edit permissions, and double-check that the list ID and field names are correct—especially if custom fields are involved. Try reconnecting your SharePoint account in Zapier, and check your Zap history for any errors. You can also simplify your Zap to test each part step-by-step. If the issue continues, contact Zapier Support with detailed logs so they can dig deeper. Let me know if I can help further.

I'm also experiencing the same issue. I've checked all my settings and verified my configuration using AI, but I'm still stuck with the exact same issue. I took @JJS-mlt’s advice and created a Delete/Create path. I am good for now, but would like a permanent fix.

Thanks all for reporting this behaviour and providing examples.

It should now be resolved for the Update Item action 🎉

You can update your Zap/s to use the latest version if applicable: Versions in Zaps
