Question

Slack Message Triggers stopped working from Mid-December

WAZEN

I have a series of Zaps that were working for months without issue. They would basically trigger when a message was posted in a chosen channel.

Since about mid-December, they have stopped working. Although there are definitely messages that should have triggered them, there is no Zap history for them at all.

The only thing I can find is an update to Slack polling limits, but I cannot even get these Zaps to show any test data, even when switching the trigger to something else, or when selecting optimized data.

What is going on here?

I have already tried:

  • Reconnecting my Slack Connection (shouldn’t be an issue as the same connection works on non-trigger Slack actions)
  • Using a different Slack trigger.
  • Both Optimized, and non-optimized data.

As I have virtually the same Zap set up for multiple channels, it is also not a problem exclusive to this channel.

As mentioned, these were all working fine until mid-December, and all stopped working at roughly the same time. No error reported from Zapier’s side - it’s like it just stopped detecting the triggers at all.

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Hi there @WAZEN! 👋

I’m so sorry to hear that your Zaps have stopped triggering. Looking at the channel messages that were missed it seems like they were posted in a private channel as there’s a lock icon that appears next to it’s name:

Was the channel made private back in December? If so, that might be why it’s no longer triggering for messages in the channel.

I’d suggest switching the Zap to use the New Message Posted to Private Channel trigger instead as that would be able to trigger for messages posted in a private Slack channel.

Can you give that trigger a try and confirm whether that gets the Zap working again?

@SamB Thank you for the suggestion but that is not the issue, as even switching to this trigger still fails.

The channels have not been changed at all in the timeframe mentioned either. As far as I know, they were always private.

Thanks for trying that other trigger, @WAZEN. Hmm, if it was always a private channel and working previously then it could be that there was a change made to the trigger that’s now preventing it from working with private channels. 🤔

I just tried in my own Slack account and was able to load a new test record from a private Slack channel. Can you try adding a new message in the private channel and then re-test the New Message Posted to Private Channel trigger to see if that then allows you to load in the message as a new test record?

@SamB I tried 2 scenarios.

First I tried testing this in one of the existing channels.

This failed.

I then created a brand new Private Channel and posted a message.

This did work.

That’s very strange, @WAZEN 🤔

The New Message Posted to a Private Channel trigger should be triggering, and able to pull new test records, for messages posted in both existing and newly created private channels. I’d recommend reaching out to our Support Team to have this investigated further. You can get in touch with them here: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

Keen to ensure this gets sorted so please keep us updated on how you get on with them!
