Open Phone Contacts not updating

bbanayan

I have my Zapier setup that everyone who calls or messages me on open phone gets added to my OpenPhone Contacts.

I made sure to setup the unique ID on the Action Part however whenever a person messages/calls me, instead of updating their existing number/contact - it creates a completely new contact entry on openphone instead.

TL;DR Openphone creates a new contact everytime irregardless if a unique ID has been filled in.

Hi @Volz Method Piano Lessons,

Before we dig deeper into this, would you mind sharing a detailed screenshot of how your Zap is configured? Also, please share a screenshot of the “CONFIGURE” section of the OpenPhone step that shows all of its fields.

Please don't include personal information in the screenshot, or be sure blur out any personal information.

Thanks!

WWhat I didnt understand was the fact that internal ids in this particular case are strictly defined by me from the beginning. I'm so used to internal I D's being something that the other program defines. So I figured it out

Hi @bbanayan

Use the phone number as the unique ID, that will make sure to update existing contact if that already exists.

tThis didn't work for me, It just refuses to update a contact no matter what I do. It only creates new contacts.

I am facing the same problem, did you add your own unique ID as a custom field and then used it for matching?

Hi @Dwalsh,

Could you please send a screenshot of the “CONFIGURE” section of your OpenPhone step? Please ensure that you capture the fields as well.

Please don't include personal information in the screenshot, or be sure blur out any personal information.

Thanks!
