Issues with Zapier Chatbot cookie policy update and formatting

It looks like Zapier have rolled out a cookie policy update for the Chatbots. Is there any way to turn this off? It doesn’t look it saves the cookie preferences properly and causes massive formatting and usability issues.

I had a look into it and it seems to have been related to the incident yesterday affecting the display of Chatbots: https://status.zapier.com/incidents/01KCNY5AAFAAXBRTXAZBSF9BKK

That’s since been resolved, so things should be loading correctly again now. If that’s not the case or if you run into any further issues just let me know, want to make sure you’re all set! 🙂

Yeah, you’re not missing anything. This is on Zapier’s side.

They’ve recently pushed a cookie consent update for Chatbots and, as of now, there’s no way to turn it off. I’ve run into the same issue where the preferences don’t always stick, which ends up causing repeat prompts and some pretty ugly layout/UX problems on embeds.

I’ve mostly seen it happen when:

  • The bot is embedded on pages that already have a cookie banner

  • There’s a lot of CSS or scripts on the page

  • The chatbot loads immediately instead of after consent is handled

Short term, the only real options are workarounds:

  • Putting the bot on a simpler page or subdomain

  • Delaying the embed until consent is resolved

  • Adding a few CSS tweaks to stop the layout from breaking

Long term, this really needs a fix from Zapier and it’s not something you can fully solve in settings right now. If you want, happy to take a look at how you’ve embedded it and suggest the least painful workaround.

Thanks for confirming I'm not the only one seeing this.

It feels redundant since we already have a robust cookie policy on the main site (and we would update our cookie to make sure it covers Zapier) It seems Zapier is forcing this to cover their own compliance bases, but the execution is definitely lacking, especially with the "amnesia" issue where it doesn't save preferences on reload.

I'm going to have our devs take a look at the CSS to see if we can hide or restyle the banner elements as a temporary patch to fix the layout breaks.
