Hey everybody!

I would like to set up a “Zap” takes infos and two images from a JotForm and then inserts them into a Google Slides. Afterwards I want to the files to be exported as PNGs and send to the user.

My problem: Zapier does not show me any image I can replace, even if I use the “insert image” button.

Any tipps?
I saw this discussion, but it sadly doesn’t work:

Thank you for your help :)

Hi @Julian_Ru

Tip: to pass images onto the template, you just need to create a text placeholder variable on your presentation template, then pass on a URL to a hosted image on your Zap template.

If you need more help, post these screenshots:

  • how your Zap steps are outlined and configured in EDIT mode with the field mappings visible
  • how your GSlides template is configured with the {{placeholders}}

Hey @Troy Tessalone

Thank you for your quick response. If I create a textfield it simply inserts the URL. The image is uploaded by Jotform and the URL link is public. Below the two screenshots.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers,

Julian

@Julian_Ru

Can you post screenshots showing how the GSlides template is configured with the actual {{placeholders}} before populated?

  • Zapier inserts images only where placeholders are explicitly defined.
  • The image must be accessible via a direct link; Zapier cannot fetch from private or non-publicly accessible URLs.

@Troy Tessalone
Yes sry.

@Julian_Ru

Things to check/try:

  • Try using a different URL
  • Try using URLs that explicitly have the file extension in the URL
  • Make sure the URL load in time for the Zap step to download to use in the placeholder

Did you review the other related Zapier Community topics for possible guidance?

@Troy Tessalone

I was able to solve my problem by introducing an intermediate step, using Google Drive to upload the image again. Then I was able to use the output “item” of this step to replace the text box {{URL}}.

The previous image URL by Jotform was already public, but somehow Zapier replaced the {{URL}} simply with the URL link text. I made Jotform save the image into the same drive, but I was not able to find or access it. The intermediate Google Drive step created a duplicate image, which I was finally able to use.

The total process however is super fragile and seems to break very easily. I will not use it in our process. But thank you for your help! 😊

@Julian_Ru

There are plenty of other PDF filler options that are more robust and have Zap app integrations.
