Hello, 

 

I’m trying to cut & download only the left side of the video with cloud convert, but I’m unsure of the settings to input:

 

For Context, I’m trying to get this section of the video:

I know the aspect ratio would be 9:16 but I can’t seem to figure out the settings to use Cloud Convert to crop out only the left side of this video (in red). 

I want to get the first minute of the video (which I can do with the trim settings in cloud convert), but can’t seem to size it properly. 

 

For Context, I host this video on airtable and can automatically upload the attached file to cloud convert for immediate download. 

 

Anyone know how to solve this?

I had a look at CloudConvert’s API documentation and I couldn’t see any options for specifying the positioning of the crop window. It seems their Crop option only allows you to resize the video to fill the width and height dimensions and crops any excess video data—see Create convert tasks:

So it doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible to specify the position with a Convert a File action. What app did you use to record the video? Does it have any in-built options to crop the video or to limit the area of the video that’s captured perhaps?

It does crop any excess video data, but I can’t seem to get the positioning to the left side. 

 

I’ll have to take a look into my screen recorded if it’s possible to crop but it would be really cool to have this automated!

Thanks for getting back to me ​@Tina Lopez. 🙂 Totally agree with you—it would be really cool to be able to automate that! If you reach out to our Support team here, they can submit a feature request to the developers of the CloudConvert app to flag the need to be able to set the position of the area to be cropped. 

In the meantime, hopefully the app you used to make the recording will have an option to set the positioning of the crop! 🤞
