I'm following along with the zapier learn lesson on how to use the Formatter utility.  The lesson shows how to create a text formatter utility to extract the domain from an email address.  It seems pretty straight-forward except that I can't publish it because Zapier says I need to add an action.  I've repeated the video tutorial three times exactly as shown except that the instructor's interface looks a little different than mine because the video is a little outdated.  Here are screenshots of the steps I've taken.  Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

Step 1: I've added a Text Formatter action and set the Action event to "Text."

Step 2: I configure the formatter with a Transform ("Split Text"), Values (the Form Data's Email field), a separator ("@"), and I set Segment index to "Second" so that I extract the text after the ampersand.

Step 3: I run a test which extracts the text string "example.com".  The test passes.

Step 4: However, at this point, I’m not able to publish the Zap because the Status says I need to add an action.  But I did that in Step 1, right?

Step 5: As you can see, the Action event is set to Text.  What else do I have to do?  I've completed each of the three steps, Setup, Configure, and Test completely, and exactly the same way as the video.

Hi @robertfdev

What are you trying to do with the data output from the Formatter step?

A Zapier Formatter step cannot be the last action step in a Zap.

Step 1 will always be a trigger step.

Steps 2+ will always be action steps.

Hello, Troy.  Thanks for your reply!  I was merely following along with tutorial I cited in my question.  I assumed that I could publish the form after completing that lesson but, instead, I received the error I described.  Perhaps my assumption was incorrect -- the form can’t be published at this step -- for the reason you gave.  I think I will just go one and complete the remaining steps in that video lesson and see how it turns out.  I’m totally new to Zapier and am just starting to learn how it works.  Thanks again for your comment.

Sounds like a solid plan, @robertfdev! Let us know how you get on with that—we’re happy to help if you run into any questions along the way! 🙂

Hey there @robertfdev! 👋

How did you get on with the rest of the lesson—were you able to get things sorted? Want to make sure you’re all set!
