I’ve been working on a project which is heavily personalized and requires me to use piped questions from a survey in SurveyMonkey in order to display a persons name in a majority of the questions. I do this by using the command {{ Q1 }} in just about every question of my survey to reference a name typed into the first question. When trying to map this out in zapier, it shows a yellow excaimation point, and the respondents answer shows in the search field, but not when I select it to actually integrate it into my smartsheet. Is there any workaround to fix this?

the greyed text showing “Strong Competence...etc.” is the respondents answer yet when selected, it says theres no data found for this question.

If the variable label has {{VAR}} then that will break the mapping because Zapier use {{VAR}} to detect and handle variables in the field inputs.

Honestly, the way to solve for this may require using the SurveyMonkey API via a Code step so that you can handle the response however you want, and in doing so you can replace the {{VAR}} in the field labels so that the Code step outputs variables without {{VAR}} in the variable labels, so those variables can be mapped in following Zap action step field inputs without breaking.

Hello Troy,

Thank you for the prompt reply. How exactly would I do that? Is there any way i could have survey monkey present the questions as they show on the survey? (i.e. including that persons name instead of the variable) That way the variables don’t break the mapping?

No, since each time the Zap Runs, the variable would break anyways because the {{NAME}} variable value would be different, thus the variable label would change and break the mapped variable in the field input.
