Gravity Forms reconnect error and Zapier support challenges

Suddenly all of our production zaps are turned off. We had a reconnect error to gravity forms since 2024 that was never fixed but all of our zaps with Gravity Forms worked fine. Now they are all turned off and I can not reactivate. I’ve email zapier support several times and they said to contact Gravity Forms support.

In zapier, our gravity forms connection shows Gravity Forms 2.1.5.

These are the versions of what we are using and I was told these are all up to date versions.

  • Wordpress 6.9.4

  • Gravity Forms 2.9.31

  • Zapier Addon 4.5.1

On thing to note is our base url is a .org url. Multiple keys have been generated and none worked.

Hi there @webster, I see you contacted our Support team as well and were able to sort it! 🎉

Sharing the cause and fix from your Support conversation here, in case it helps anyone who runs into the same issue:

The issue was not with Gravity Forms, but with "Bot Fight Mode" being enabled in Cloudflare. We've turned that off, at least temporarily, to get the zaps to reconnect.

Let us know if you run into any other issues 🙂

Hi @webster
You can try these:

1. Update to Zapier Add-On 4.5.1 (Primary Fix)

This version directly fixes the issue you're experiencing. According to the official changelog  and release announcement :

4.5.1 | 2025-11-18

  • Fixed an issue where attempting to publish a Zap returns a production.ERROR on Zapier.

  • Updated authentication to check for read/write permissions on the REST API Key.

Action: Reinstall/update to v4.5.1 from your Gravity Forms account or WordPress dashboard .

2. Check Authorization Headers in Site Health

According to Zapier's official troubleshooting documentation :

"Go to your WordPress Admin Dashboard → Tools → Site Health. Test your authorization headers. The security item should say: 'The authorization header is working as expected.' If there are any errors, have your Server Host check that the server has the CGIPassAuth directive enabled."

The Gravity Forms troubleshooting guide  confirms that Site Health tests for Authorization header, REST API, and SSL must all pass for Zapier to connect.

3. Complete Reconnection Process

Per Gravity Forms REST API documentation :

  1. Delete existing connection in Zapier's "Connected Accounts"

  2. Go to Forms → Settings → REST API in WordPress

  3. Click Add Key – select a user and set Permissions to "Read/Write"

  4. Copy the Consumer Key and Secret immediately (they won't be shown again)

  5. Click Update to save the key

  6. Re-add the account in Zapier using the new keys

"If you don't see these logs, this is an issue with the REST API setup in WordPress."

4. Check for Security Plugin Conflicts

Zapier's documentation  states:

"Certain WordPress plugins like WordFence can block the REST API. Try adding https://hooks.zapier.com/ to your safe list in your security settings."

The Gravity Forms troubleshooting guide  adds:

  • CloudFlare and other caching services can block REST API requests

  • .htpasswd or password protection plugins restrict access

  • You may need to whitelist Gravity Forms REST API endpoints

5. Verify URL Consistency

According to Zapier's documentation :

"Bad redirection rules can route REST API requests and remove POST or DELETE verbs, leaving a default GET request. This occurs when you enter your site URL without 'www' if your URL requires it, or with 'www' when it does not require it."

Action: Verify your WordPress Site URL (Settings → General) matches exactly what you enter in Zapier.

If none work, the issue is with your WordPress REST API setup, not Zapier . Contact Gravity Forms support  with Site Health results and API logs enabled.

If you're still running into issues after trying these steps, I offer a free 20-min Zapier troubleshooting call. Book it through my Zapier Directory profile — it's listed under Resources on the left side: https://zapier.com/partnerdirectory/automatemybiz!-->

Hey @webster,

Here are some of the prerequisites for Gravity forms in Zapier-

  • A Gravity Forms Pro or Elite license.
  • The Gravity Forms Zapier add-on downloaded and installed on your WordPress site.
  • An SSL certificate installed and configured on your website.
  • Your website must be accessible to the internet (Zapier needs to reach your site via REST API).
  • A WordPress user account with the gravityforms_edit_forms capability and Read/Write privileges for creating REST API keys.
  • Gravity Forms REST API v2 key (Consumer Key and Consumer Secret) created in your WordPress admin.

Please confirm if you have all these for Gravity forms integration to work. I would recommend deleting the existing connection and creating a new connection from scratch. Hope it helps!
