Google Calendar Times are wrong

I have Google Calendar set up that then posts to Discord an hour before an event. It was working just fine earlier this week. Then for a Friday event, the time was completely wrong saying 3am instead of 7pm PST. I didn’t change anything, something changed on its own. I don’t have any transformations. I’m on free so I can only have 2 steps.

How do I get the times to come in correctly again?

Hi @hanahana,

We had a recent bug where the pretty start date and pretty end date fields were using the timezone of the event creator. That was an update released on Monday that fixed the issue.

Can you let me know if you still the same behavior or if it is working correctly now.

Hi @hanahana

Check these time zone settings:

  • Time Zone setting in your Zapier account
  • Time Zone setting of the specific Zap
  • Time Zone setting in GCal
  • Time Zone setting in Discord

Hello, I checked all of them and they are set correctly.

  • Zapier account is set correctly
  • Zap’s details show time zone is set correctly
  • Google Calendar event shows the correct time zone
  • Discord is unrelated but it takes time zone from my PC, which is set correctly

The Zaps go off at the correct, expected time. But the start time it gives for me to use is incorrect. Just looking at the GCal step and not even having a Discord step, the data for start time is incorrect.

@hanahana

For us to have more info, post screenshots of the DATA IN/OUT from the Zap Runs: https://zapier.com/app/history/

@hanahana

The timestamps in the screenshots, show the Zap ran 51 minutes before the calendar event start time.

18:09:01 vs 19:00:00 in UTC time with the -08:00 time zone offset.

The slight time difference (51 minutes vs 1 hour) is due to the Free Zapier plan that checks for new data at 15 minute intervals.

Hi @Daniel.S,

It looks like the Zap is using an older version of Google Calendar.

Could you please try updating your Google Calendar app to the latest version? You can learn more on how to update to the latest app version in Zaps here: https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/18755649454989-Update-to-the-latest-app-version-in-Zaps

Kindly give it a try and let me know how it goes? I'll keep an eye out for your response!

@ken.a Hello. I checked the zap and the number “1.0.3” has disappeared. Am I good to go?

@JammerS

Hi,

It’s still reflecting wrong time adjustment. See the attached.

America/NY time should be -5, not -8

Hi @Daniel.S,

Could you please confirm if you have the correct timezone in your Zapier Profile Settings? If your timezone isn't set for your Zapier account, then you may see dates created by your Zaps that are off by a consistent number of hours.

  • To do this, go to your profile settings. Click the Timezone dropdown menu and select your timezone, then click Save changes.

Kindly give it a try and let me know how it goes? I'll keep an eye out for your response!

I'm currently having problems with date and time formater > when zaping parsed data to create and detailed event in Gcal. Im breaking my head for the past 5 days. I'm litteraly stuck, had multiple c-support employees trying to help me, had to delete many zaps and start over; yesterday i thought that i had everything fixed as it should be, then suddenly it doesn't work anymore.

The weird thing about it is: that my '’previous'’ test data entry from my webform, thats been parsed by zapier-inbox, is being implemented correctly, but newer/latest webform entry's are being scheduled wrong. I'm currently at the point that im pretty sure that I'm upholding best practice; and now i see these community posts??

Ergo: is the issue solved? I don't think so…. I can't procceed with my work… Please offer a solution, because im cooking and loosing my mind. Atleast notify me that there is in deed a bug. Btw: currently on free plan, will go for a premium plan. But really guys; it's making me crazy.

Hi @Wvolt,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. If you're facing issues with date and time formatting in your Zap, it may be due to how Zapier parses data from your webform. Ensure the webform's date and time format matches Zapier's expected format. Check the "Formatter by Zapier" step to confirm the "To Format" field aligns with Google Calendar's requirements. Also, verify that the "Start Date & Time" and "End Date & Time" fields in the Google Calendar action are using correctly formatted data. If the issue persists, contact Zapier Support with these details for further assistance.
