When I use ChatGPT

I have a new account I use 0/1000 from my Tasks

info : I have a free account on zapier and chatgpt

Hi @TheMT, welcome to the Community! 😁

It seems that quota error refers to reaching your ChatGPT’s plan limits, not your Zapier plan’s limits. You can find out more about that error and ways to resolve it here: Error Code 429 - You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.

Could you take a look at the steps mentioned in that guide let us know if those help to get rid of the error?

Hi @SamB,

I’m having the exact same issue. I’m on the free Zapier and ChatGPT plan, however, I have not used any of my API credits in ChatGPT. This would mean that I haven’t met my quota.

Is it possible to use ChatGPT in a Zap if you’re on the free trial plan of ChatGPT, or do you need to be on a paid plan?

Hi @oskaratmultiply,

I’m jumping in to see if I can help!

You should be able to use ChatGPT with Zapier regardless of the plan you’re on with Zapier, but you need a paid plan or a trial plan with ChatGPT.

I looked at the screenshot, and it looks like your free trial usage expired on 1st of April 2023. That’s why the Zap is throwing an error of: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.

Hopefully, this helps! 😊

You need to have OpenAi paid account not just a chatgpt plus account. They are two different things.

Where can I get a OpenAi paid account? There’s no place to upgrade, I am already a paid paid chatgpt plus customer...

@Rohan Rossouw

You can add a billing payment method to OpenAI here: https://platform.openai.com/account/billing/payment-methods

Did someone find anything I do have a paid ChatGPT account + API Credits that I just bought and I am having the same error.

@GlobalSR

Make sure you have a billing payment method added to OpenAI here: https://platform.openai.com/account/billing/payment-methods

After adding a billing payment method to OpenAI here: https://platform.openai.com/account/billing/payment-methods I had to create a new Zap and it worked! Thank you!

So what do you do when you’ve done everything everyone here has said?

I’ve paid for Openai API for over a year, have a billing method, have not reached my limit, but i still get the error message:

Failed to create a conversation in ChatGPT

Error from halted execution: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, read the docs: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/error-codes/api-errors.

Also, why is the openai assistant available in the chatgpt app, and not in the openai app? T-his is completely reversed.

After reading through hundreds of comments on forums, i solved the issue myself, doing something no one ever said anywhere.

If you go to just the right billing page, it will tell you the API stops working when it hits 0. Jesus christ that took a long time to find.

Why the f would you not put this info in the help article? literally spent an hour troubleshooting this, all you had to do was just add this info in the help article. Jesus christ.

Hi @Idc32

Help articles for using ChatGPT and OpenAI in Zaps:

OpenAI and ChatGPT error: Insufficient_quota

Symptoms

You see an error message of "minsufficient_quota] You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details." when using either OpenAI or ChatGPT. This error happens when testing the Zap or if the Zap is turned on.

Causes

This error happens when you've reached your quota of tokens in your OpenAI/ChatGPT account. This means you've consumed all credits or units for your plan and have reached the limit of your billing cycle with OpenAI/ChatGPT.

How to fix it

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Check the current usage limit in your account. You can also review your current usage, to understand how your tokens have been consumed.
  2. Get more tokens or increase monthly usage limits.

Additional information can be found in OpenAI's documentation: Error Code 429 - You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.

I am having the problem and nothing I’ve found will fix it.  What do you mean by the API stops working when it hits 0 please? all my usage on OpenAI is showing as zero

Hi @JolteonPixel 👋

I expect that @Idc32 was referring to having 0 credits left in their OpenAI account.

The billing page in OpenAI (https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing/overview) should show how many credits you have left and has a notice that states API requests will stop working if your balance reaches $0:

If your account is all out of credits then it may be worth enabling their auto recharge feature (shown in the screenshot above) to avoid these errors in future.

Hope that helps. If you run into any further issues or questions at all do let us know! 🙂

hi @SamB thanks for replying as I am still struggling. I use an account given to me by my company, which is the enterprise plan. I should therefore not have any PAYG credit as far as I understand, it should all be billed centrally.  Any ideas for me please?

Hmm that’s very odd, @JolteonPixel. 🤔 In that case I’d suggest reaching out to the admin of your company’s OpenAI account or OpenAI’s Support team to ensure everything’s been properly set up on that side. I don’t know how many free API credits you should have access to on OpenAI’s Enterprise plan, but if your company hasn’t already used up it’s free credits then you shouldn’t be seeing errors about exceeding your quota.

Please report back here to let us know how you get on, keen to know why you’re seeing these errors despite being on OpenAI’s Enterprise plan!
