Failed to create a conversation event in Google Analytics 4: Google may be having issues with their API

We’ve been having the same issue since last year. We’re extremely disappointed that there’s so little transparency nor communication around this topic. Even Support doesn’t get updated on the progress of this issue, which leaves absolutely everyone in the dark. 

It would be greatly appreciated if the developers would give a status update after nearly a year of this ongoing issue.

Thanks for letting us know, @Pluginvest. And can totally understand the disappointment here, I’m sorry we’ve not been able to provide more details on the progress of this bug. I’ve checked on the bug report and unfortunately there’s still no updates I can share at the moment. I’ve added you to the list of users being affected so that we can notify you as soon as it’s officially resolved. I’ve also reached out to the developers about this and will report back here with an update as soon as I can.

In the meantime, the last time I checked it appeared to be working. I tried creating a conversion event and that was added without error:


And I was again able to load a Data Stream successfully:


So I’m wondering if something may have changed on Google’s end that means it now requires different/higher permissions to be able to access the Data Streams. Can you confirm what role/permissions the connected Google Account you’re using currently has?

FYI, I just tried adding as a measurement and not conversion event the way you mentioned and neither works. Both give the same error. Please add me to your list. 

Who can we complain to on social media about this issue that’s existed for years evidently? 

Any update on this? I see a Zapier employee replied saying it applies to create measurement, but I get the same error on create conversion event.

I’ve just checked on the bug report and there’s still been no change in the status of the bug.

​@JWerb and ​@jessestay - I’ve added you both to the bug report so you’ll definitely be notified once it’s been marked as resolved. Having said that, I tested again in my own Zap and was still able to load a data stream option successfully in the Data Stream field on a Create Measurement action so there might be some difference in the settings or permissions for the connected account that’s preventing the options from loading. 🤔

There were two separate issues mentioned in the original topic post: 

1. One for an issue in loading the data stream options on a Create Measurement action—the bug report discussed in this thread is for this issue only.
2. And a separate issue for a Failed to create a Conversation event error. 

Can you confirm:

1. What role/permissions does the connected Google account have? 
2. Are you seeing this “Unable to load choices - We’re having trouble loading ‘Data Stream’ data” error on the Data Stream field (Issue 1):

​@Acutata - as the bug report discussed in this thread specifically relates to the “Unable to load choices - We’re having trouble loading ‘Data Stream’ data” error on the Data Stream field on Create Measurement actions I’ve not added you to that.

Can you confirm whether you’re seeing a “Failed to create conversion event” error OR a similar “Unable to load choices” error on the Create Conversion Event for a Property action? There’s a separate bug report open for that second issue which I can add you to but I wanted to double-check which error you’re seeing before adding you to that.
