Facebook New Post zap keeps triggering without me posting

I keep getting an error on my Facebook-Google My Business Zap with the error “Required field "Summary" (post_summary) is missing.”

The thing is, though, that I’m not posting anything when I get these errors. If and when I post, the zap works just fine, but these errors seem to be something to do with Facebook reshowing reels that we have posted before.

This zap used to work fine until around 6 months ago (maybe more), when I started getting these errors, so I assume Facebook has changed something somewhere.

I thought about adding some extra text into the summary field, which should theoretically stop it from erroring, but I don’t want these zaps to trigger and run up my zap usage. Has anyone come across this, and is there a way to fix it?

Hi @SamB, I figured out a work around that works for me. I also copy posts to Instagram, so I’ve just changed the trigger to new Instagram posts instead.

Hi @DavidE1A

Add a Filter step to check for required fields: https://zapier.com/apps/filter/integrations#help

Thanks @Troy Tessalone

I should probably have added though, I only use the free account, so can’t use filters.

@DavidE1A, I can definitely help with this. I’ll look into the root cause of the “Summary” field error and set up a proper filter to ensure the zap only triggers on actual new Facebook posts — not when old content like reels are resurfaced. This will prevent unnecessary zap runs and keep your task usage optimized.

I’ll make sure everything works smoothly again like it used to. Let’s connect for a quick call to finalize the details:

Hey @DavidE1A, just checking in—were you able to get this sorted?

If it’s still triggering on reels that the Zaps already triggered for then it could well be a bug. In which case, I’d recommend reaching out to our Support team about this. They’ll be able to investigate further and if it is a bug they’ll open up a bug report for our engineers to work on.

Keep us posted on how you get on, want to make sure this gets resolved! 🙂
