Question

Excel "You do not have permissions to open this file in the browser" error

I created a Zap to send data from my Bubble.io website to an MS Excel sheet. However, the Zap is now showing this error:

"This Microsoft Excel step hit an error: Halted Exception: You do not have permissions to open this file in the browser."

I’ve already checked all the permissions on my OneDrive Excel sheet and set it to "Anyone can edit," but I’m still encountering this issue. If anyone has any insights or suggestions, please let me know!

Even if the file is set to "Anyone can edit," OneDrive may block downloads by default. Check the advanced sharing settings and disable "Block download" to allow Zapier to access the file.

If Excel permissions remain problematic, consider exporting data to Google Sheets.

Organizational policies (e.g., restricted SharePoint/OneDrive permissions) might override individual file settings.

I’ve also been having this issue for almost a year now...

Very frustrating.  If I manually run the zap, it stalls out and gives same error as when the automation auto runs **UNLESS** I go into One drive in Google Chrome first. It’s rather odd. Almost seems like me just going into OneDrive wakes One drive’s communication up, then it allows my Excel automations to work fine.  I’ve noticed it only works if I’ve been manually in my One drive within 15ish minutes of when my Zap is supposed to run.

Really need this fixed Zapier or I’m going to cancel my service.  This is ridiculous it’s been going on almost a year now.  I can manually run my zaps I guess but it’s getting very annoying.  You guys need to work with Microsoft and figure out why their stuff is losing connection to yours.

Hi @JmacExcelguy,

Welcome to the Community.

If you're facing issues with OneDrive and Zapier, try reconnecting your OneDrive account in Zapier, turning off conflicting apps or browser extensions, and using a different browser or incognito mode. Also, check your OneDrive settings for any restrictions. If the problem persists, contact Zapier Support for further assistance. They can investigate your specific Zaps and work with Microsoft if needed.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.
