Difficulty configuring the PayPal app to trigger on new donations

Hi, I’m trying to configure the Paypal app to use as a trigger when my org received new donations.

That’ll either be a payment capture or a payment sale webhook. I’ve tried setting up both in test zaps just to see what comes through, but the zaps keep turning themselves off due to a permissions issue of some sort.

I’ve followed these instructions for creating an app on Paypal’s side, configuring what the app has access to, and using the client id and secret for the Zapier connection:
https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8495999676045-How-to-get-started-with-PayPal-on-Zapier#h_01K9F9MSZ8WWWX843HEE329WD1

I can get sample data when I test the Zap, but the Zap still turns itself off citing some issue with the paypal connection.

When I look at the Paypal side app, I notice that no webhooks have been created as a result of creating and testing the Zap. I assume the Zapier Paypal zap would be creating those webhooks, since the instructions don’t specify having to do that.

Is that assumption correct? Is there anything else I should look into to debug this?

Thanks!

Circling back on this. There were a few issues.

First, I didn’t have the Transaction search checkbox selected on Paypal’s side, which was preventing me from getting test cases.

Second, I needed to recreate the existing connection (using the replace connection option on the App Connections page) for the new permissions to come into effect.

Third, as I was creating and recreating these Zaps, and some point I was trying to turn on the Zap without fully competing the configuration section of the Paypal trigger (it was late and my attention was pretty tapped). This is what was causing the Zap to turn itself off immediately.

Cheers

Hi @BobbyA

Help links for using PayPal in Zaps: https://zapier.com/apps/paypal/integrations#help

You can set your own webhook in PayPal using this Zap app trigger: Webhooks by Zapier

Hi @BobbyA, just checking in to see if Troy’s reply helped sort this?

If you're still having trouble with the Zap turning itself off, could you share the exact error message you're seeing about the PayPal connection? That may give us a bit more context on what's causing it.
