I have a quiz which results in one of 3 responses.

Each response has a corresponding tag in order to segment the user into my CRM.

When setting up the configuration inside Zapier, I select Custom Tag and map it to the correct field.

However, when I do a test, I receive this error:

Failed to create a contact in systeme.io

The app returned "Tag is invalid. Check that corresponding tag exists in your systeme.io account".

I can confirm that the tags set up inside of the CRM are EXACTLY the same as what is inside the Quiz.

So that is NOT the problem.

Zapier staff don’t bother reading my email correctly and keep telling me to select the static tag - which WON’T work because that limits me to creating only ONE tag (but that won’t help with the segmentation issue with the other tags!).

I’d really appreciate any other input / assistance on this issue.

Hi @SamiJ,

I haven’t worked with systeme.io before but my best guess would be that you’re sending in the string representation of a tag (ex. “FunnelFlow Block”) but systeme.io requires the Tag ID. For example, “FunnelFlow Block” may have a tag ID of 5. You may have to find this Tag ID in the UI of Systeme it might be listed clearly or something you can extract from the URL.

Hope this helps!

Hi @robintrainward Thanks for your response, but no. Systeme.io only uses the text “FunnelFlow Block” and does not use tag ID’s. I’ve used Systeme.io extensively, and when integrated with Zapier - I’ve always only used the static tag - which has worked fine. But with this custom tag it’s not working.

Asking them for support they say it’s a Zapier issue.

Gotchya, what about parsing the Tag to remove the category? Maybe “Lead” from “Lead: FunnelFlow Block” needs to be removed? I think this can be accomplished with a code by Zapier JS Snippet.

If that’s not it, I hope you find a solution shortly!

@robintrainward appreciate that you are trying to help.

I don’t see why Lead: XYZ would cause any difference? This has never been an issue in the past. It’s a simple nomenclature that I use to tag all my leads and purchases inside the platform.

Thoughts?

Hi @SamiJ,

If you've been using the "Lead: XYZ" tagging format without problems before but are now encountering issues, it may be due to recent updates in your platform or Zapier workflows that impact tag recognition. Inconsistencies in tag formatting, changes in field mapping, or platform-specific updates could also be contributing factors. Testing tag variations and reviewing workflow configurations can help identify the cause. If the issue continues, contacting the Zapier support team for both platforms is recommended.

@JammerS I just received an email from Zapier to create a dynamic lookup table in Google Sheets that includes all possible tags and their corresponding IDs.

They say “You can then utilize a Lookup Table step in your Zap to dynamically match the incoming tag name from Fillout to its Tag ID. This setup would allow you to accommodate multiple tag options efficiently.”

I’ve had a look at the page they tell me to reference (https://community.zapier.com/featured-articles-65/creating-a-lookup-table-with-google-sheets-7759), but I have no idea how to find the tag ID’s for the table, and I’m also not understanding how I’m supposed to map it to Systeme.io part of the zap!

Can you shed any light?

Hey @SamiJ 👋

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in here to lend a hand. The tag ID should be listed under each individual tag name, in the list of available tags in the Tag field.

For example:

c4f80cc29f12e6fdcf59af500e7037f7.png

Once you’ve got the tag name and it’s corresponding ID added to your spreadsheet you’d use that Lookup Spreadsheet Row action to search for the tag name supplied by the Fillout Forms trigger. That should then get the tag’s ID, which you can then map to the Tag field on the Systeme.io action. For example:

Keep us posted on how it goes, want to make sure you’re all set! 🙂

I really appreciate your help @SamB

I’m back on track again.

I found the tag IDs and added them to the google sheet.

I tried doing another test and it failed:

So I went back, thinking maybe I made a mistake with the ID number, but lo and behold - the numbers are correct.

Any clues as to what I’m doing wrong?

@SamB

Ok, I think I’m getting somewhere with this.

I’ve created a Google sheet which AUTOMATICALLY adds in the ID into column R: --Link removed by moderator--

And when I create the Zap from Google Sheet to SIO, I’m selecting the Tag ID.

However, it’s still not feeding the information into Systeme.io - even though there are no longer any errors popping up.

Any ideas what’s going on now? 🙈

GAH! I’ve never been so frustrated in all my life!

I really appreciate your troubleshooting with me.

Hi @SamiJ, I’m so sorry to have missed your replies earlier!

Were you able to get this sorted? If not, have you made any structural types of changes to the spreadsheet after switching the Zap?

For example:

If you have, can you try turning the Zap off and back on again. Then add a new row to the spreadsheet to see if it then triggers?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
