Question

Chatgpt 5 is expremely slow in chatbots and newer models are taking way too long to get added.

What’s going on with this service? Their Chatgpt 5 implementation has been extremely slow since release. Reponses take way over a minute or 2. Their best solution was to use 4.1 whenever I contacted them. 5.1 and 5.2 have already been released and have yet to get added. 5.2 being much faster than 5.0 which should solve this even without Zapier doing much but adding it. As a paying customer, I feel like I have to do all the work, create a detailed directive that can withstand 4.1’s silliness and constantly ask them what’s up with newer models only to get a “we’re working on it”.

Also, why can’t we edit the title? Left out an ‘o’ there by accident and only noticed after sending.

That hasn’t really been helpful until now

It looks like some optimizations were just done after I wrote this. Chatgpt 5 on medium reasoning now only takes 25-35 seconds for a reply (still pretty long). High reasoning is still unusable without frequently running into a timeout. OpenAI has released much faster varients since 5.0 and the support from Zapier has been pretty slow with no ETA given.

Thanks for sharing that update @Mikef12306. Glad to hear the speed has improved a little since you initially reached out here. 🙂

Would definitely be good to get the newer 5.2 model added so I’ve added your feedback here to our internal database, which our product teams use when looking to make improvements and changes to Zapier Chatbots to ensure they’re aware of the need for this. I can’t give any sort of ETA as to when it might get added by, but hopefully it’ll be added in the near future.

In the meantime, have you tried using the OpenAI GPT-5 mini model? That model should be quicker to respond than the OpenAI GPT-5 one.

Alternatively, if you add your own API Key that should then give you access other models.

Let us know how it goes if you give either of those options a try!
