Question

BigQuery Connected Sheet tab not showing up in Zapier, anyone dealt with this?

Running into a weird issue with Google Sheets + Zapier and curious if anyone has seen this before.

We’re trying to connect a spreadsheet to a Zap, but the tab we need does not show up in Zapier’s dropdown. The tab is called “Connected Sheet 1” and it’s powered by a live BigQuery Connected Sheet query, so it’s not just a normal sheet tab.

My guess is Zapier may not play nicely with tabs backed by Connected Sheets / BigQuery, and may only reliably detect standard tabs.

A couple questions:

  • Has anyone fixed this by creating a normal tab that mirrors the Connected Sheet data?
  • Also, has anyone seen permissions affect this? The sheet is not showing in the picker right now, and I’m wondering if giving Editor access instead of just Viewer might help Zapier detect it.

Would love to know the cleanest workaround if you’ve run into this before.

Hi @asheth2295

Also try opening a ticket with Zapier Support to get an official answers about the GSheets integration: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

Hi there @asheth2295 👋

I spotted you also reached out to our Support team about this but I couldn’t see a response to their email, so I’m not sure if you got this sorted. Sharing the main details from their reply here in case it's helpful to you or anyone else who runs into the same thing:

Zapier’s Google Sheets integration is built around regular worksheets. Tabs created by BigQuery Connected Sheets are special in Google Sheets, and they often do not appear in Zapier’s worksheet list the way a standard tab does, which lines up with what you are seeing for “Connected Sheet 1.”

Your workaround idea is a solid one. Other users add a normal worksheet and mirror the data there (for example with QUERY, IMPORTRANGE, or a copy into a plain tab), then point the Zap at that standard tab. If your automation can run from the database side instead, using Zapier’s BigQuery integration can also sidestep the Connected Sheet tab limitation.

Regarding permissions, the Google account connected to Zapier needs to be able to open the spreadsheet. If the file did not show in the picker at all, reconnect Google Sheets in Zapier and select the spreadsheet again. Editor access can matter for some workflows, but the main check is that you are using the correct Google user and that user has access to the file.

For more detail you can review Work with Google Sheets in Zaps and Google Sheets spreadsheet doesn't appear in the dropdown menu.

Keep us posted on how it goes! 🙂
