Slack > How do I tag only 1 person instead of a whole channel?

Hello :)

So I’m trying to tag only specific people in Slack via a Zap instead of the entire channel because although there’s people in the channel who need visibility on what’s going on in the channel, they don’t need the notification each time.

This doesn’t seem to be easily doable unlike the @channel automation.

My suspicion is that it’s because there’s a space in between a first and last name?

Wondering if anyone has figured this out?

Hey there, @Oliver Wolf!

Thanks for reaching out in community! I wonder if you used the memberID, instead of the handle, if that would work?

Here’s a help article on how to do this. Specifically:

User mentions: type an open angle bracket, the at symbol (@), the user’s Slack member ID (see below how to find the member ID), and a closing angle bracket.

To find a user’s Slack member ID:

  • Select the user’s Slack profile.
  • Click More.
  • Copy the member ID by clicking Copy member ID and paste it into your Zap.

I hope this helps and keep us in the loop! 🙂
