Trello's 'Card Updated' trigger fires on every card change, wasting tasks. There's no way to trigger a Zap specifically when a custom field changes in Trello. This forces users to either burn through tasks or use workarounds like Webhooks. A native 'Custom Field Changed' trigger would save customers significant costs and is a standard expectation for Trello automation.

I checked and couldn’t see any existing feature requests for the ability to trigger on a card’s specific custom field being update. I’d suggest reaching out to our Support team directly so they can put in a feature request for that.
In the meantime, you could keep a record of the existing custom field values for each card in Zapier Tables. That way when the Zap is triggered for an update you can use a Find Records search action to search for the card’s record to get the previous custom field value. You’d need to keep a record of the Trello card’s ID as well as the custom field values. Then use a filter to see if its current value matches what’s already in the table and only allow the Zap to continue if it doesn’t. Although it would mean adding extra actions to the Zap, Zapier Tables and Filter actions don’t count toward your task usage.
