We are trying streamline our open house process with getting accurate information from potential clients. Is there a feature that a client could text a number (ex 45888) to receive an automated text with information (or a link) about our team and our services, and in return we receive an accurate phone number from the potential client?

Hi @Reed Martin

If you are trying to use a shortcode phone number, then you will need to use an app that supports shortcode phone numbers.

Twilio is an option: https://www.twilio.com/en-us/messaging/channels/sms/short-codes

Zap App:

Twilio

  • ✅ Supports shortcodes (with proper setup and approval)

  • 🔁 Send/receive SMS or MMS via shortcodes

  • 📲 Great for 2FA, alerts, and marketing

  • 🔧 Requires shortcode provisioning with Twilio

A shortcode phone number is a special type of phone number, usually 5 or 6 digits long, used primarily for sending and receiving SMS (text messages) and MMS (multimedia messages).

Key Facts:

  • 📱 Used by businesses to send automated messages (e.g., alerts, promotions, 2FA codes).

  • 🔢 Shorter than regular phone numbers, often easier to remember (e.g., 12345 or 678910).

  • ⚡️ Typically faster and higher throughput than regular long-code numbers.

  • ✅ Must be approved and registered with mobile carriers to operate legally.

Types:

  • Dedicated shortcode: One business uses it exclusively.

  • Shared shortcode (less common now): Multiple businesses share it using keywords.

Examples:

  • Text JOIN to 12345 to subscribe

  • Your 2FA code is 893421 — sent from 54321
