How to forward emails but stay in thread?

I have a zap for

  1. detect if a gmail email is labeled
  2. Forward that email to receipts@expensify.  Since one cannot actually Forward, I use Send Email instead and reconstruct the email. The problem is that in Gmail it sends as a new message instead of as part of the existing conversation, aka thread.

Is there a way to put info into the constructed Send Email so that it will be conversation threaded by gmail?  I’ve already tried making the from email and from name the same, and making sure subject is Fwd: subject. But maybe there’s a threadID or email ID I also need to include in some way?

Hi there @ck88,

Welcome to the Community! 🎉

I did some digging into this, and it seems like we have an open feature request for the “Forward Email” action in Gmail. I have added you as another interested member to that feature request. That does a few things:

  • Bring this to the attention of the integration developers
  • Help track interest in this feature being implemented
  • Allows us to notify you via email if this feature becomes available in the future

While I don't have an ETA on when this feature might be implemented, we will notify you via email if it is!

Hopefully, this helps.
