Hello, we use Zapier to feed inbound leads into Pipedrive for a sales team.

We first of all look for a Contact and if none is found, one is created.

A Deal is then created for the Contact from the previous step.

What we’d like to be able to do, but can’t work out -

If the Contact was an existing one, check if the number matches the new inbound number.

If it does, proceed as normal.

If it doesn’t, add the non matching number to an additional field.

I can’t get my head around how to do this. Can anyone help?

Hi @Darren G,

Welcome to the Community.

You can use Zapier to update a contact's number in Pipedrive only if it differs from the existing one. First, find or create a contact, then make a deal. Use "Formatter by Zapier" to subtract the inbound number from the existing one. If the result isn't zero, a filter allows Zap to proceed by updating the contact with the new number.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions or anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hello @JammerS

Thanks for your response.

Wouldn’t that require the phone number to be in a specific, purely numeric format (ie. with no + or brackets in the format)?

Darren

Hi @Darren G,

You're correct that phone numbers must be purely numeric for accurate comparison. Use 'Formatter by Zapier' to remove special characters before comparing. Add a 'Formatter' step after 'Find or Create Contact,' use the 'Replace' operation to remove characters like "+," "(, "")," and "-," and then proceed with the comparison.

Hi @Darren G! 👋

How did you get on with Jammer’s suggestions here—did they do the trick, or did you find an alternative solution?

If not, you could also try using Formatter’s (Number > Format Phone Number) action to convert the phone number into a purely numeric format. Check out our Modify number formats in Zaps guide to learn more about how to do that. Then, use a filter, or paths, to check whether the two numbers match using the (Text) Exactly matches rule.
