Hello everybody,

I am a Muslim, so I pray multiple times a day. Though My prayers are daily and regular, they really depend on sun’s position in the sky rather than time, hence their event isn’t exactly fixed in the calendar. I can work around it in my daily day, but I love my things to work fine, so I am aiming to automate a Zap that drags down any event which overlaps with my prayer event, and update its “Start Date & Time” to be the prayer event’s “Event Ends”.

I did it through 3 step:

  • 1 (trigger) : 15 mins before prayer event starts
  • 2 : find the event that overlaps with prayer event
  • 3 : update its “Start Date & Time” to be prayer event’s “Event Ends”

It’s good so far, and I’m satisfied. The only thing that’s in the way is that Zapier didn’t drag my overlapping event, it chopped the unnecessary part. For example: If I have to pray 10:00-10:30pm and I have a Study event from 8-11pm, it’ll be updated to 10:30-11pm, so Zapier chopped it, and didn’t drag it down. Any solutions for this?

Thank you in advance.

Hi there @JUST COUCH,

Welcome to the Community! 🎉

Before we dig deeper into this, could you please send a screenshot of the chopped event in Google Calendar? This will help me take a closer look at the issue. Additionally, please send a screenshot of the “CONFIGURE” section of the Update Event step that shows all of its fields.

Please don't include personal information in the screenshot, or be sure blur out any personal information.

Thank you!

Hello @ken.a, thank you for your quick respond, here’s a real example:

before my Zap gets triggered 15 mins before my prayer event starts, here’s how it looks like in Google Cal.

the Writing event is overlapping with my prayer(Dhuhr)

here is the Step 3 configuration settings:

(I only updated Writing’s “Start Date & Time” to be my prayer’s “Event Ends”, nothing else is touched)

and here what happens when I test it:

as you see, the duration of the overlapping event wasn’t preserved properly, it was chopped rather than dragged(delayed)

@ken.a, sorry for the bothersome, i found a solution that works, and I’m now happy with my Zap.

Thank you.

Wow! Thank you for confirming that Ken’s resolution got the Zap running. This will significantly help our Community members to have as a reference for the same issue.
