Question

Automating Discord Files or Photos to Google Drive

Hi! I am new here so please bear with me.

I am trying to automate my discord channel, where if one person uploads an image, It will automatically upload it to a specific Google Drive (maybe sorting is an option, but for now i just hope the uploading works)

I’ve gotten successful at adding zapier to the channel, and for it to watch for messages, but I am unable to get it to extract the link/upload the image on Google Drive.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there, and welcome to the Zapier Community!

You are already 90% of the way there. The reason the upload is getting stuck comes down to where Discord puts the image link inside Zapier's data.

When someone uploads a picture to Discord, the image file is not stored in the regular "Content" field (which only holds typed text). Instead, Discord passes it in a separate field called "Attachments Url".

Here is the exact setup to get your images uploading straight to Google Drive:
  1. Trigger: Discord (New Message Posted to Channel)
Test this trigger with a recent Discord message that actually has an uploaded image attached. When
looking at your test record in Zapier, search for the field named "Attachments Url" (or "Attachments
  Proxy Url").
  2. Recommended: Filter by Zapier (Only continue if an image is present)
Add a "Filter by Zapier" step between Discord and Google Drive:

  • Only continue if...
  • Field: "Attachments Url"
  • Condition: "Exists"
This step keeps your Zap running smoothly by ignoring text-only messages, preventing unnecessary error
  alerts.

  3. Action: Google Drive (Upload File)
Set up the Google Drive step:

  • Drive: Select your Drive (My Google Drive or Shared Drive)
  • Folder: Pick your destination folder
  • File: Map the "Attachments Url" field from Step 1 (Zapier will take that link, download the actual
image, and save the file into Drive)
  • File Name (optional): You can map "Attachments Filename" from Step 1 or leave it blank to keep the
  original name

Run a test on Step 3, and your image should pop up immediately in your Google Drive folder.

If you get stuck on any of the field mappings during testing, feel free to reply with a screenshot of what you see and we can get it sorted!

  Cheers,
  Robert

I’m following up on the suggestion shared above. Please let us know whether it resolved the issue.

As you work through those steps, here are a few additional tips:

  • Use a Shared Drive so uploads aren’t tied to one person’s account.

  • Leave File Name blank, or map Attachments Filename, to preserve the original filename.

  • Turn on the Zap and upload a new image to confirm the workflow runs successfully from start to finish.

  • If a message contains multiple images, test that scenario as well. A Looping by Zapier step may be needed to process each image.

Please give these steps a try. If you encounter any issues or have further questions, share any relevant screenshots so we can take a closer look.

Robert's walkthrough is nicely detailed, and the reminder about the Attachments URL field is the piece most people miss. The Filter step to skip text-only messages is a sensible touch that prevents unnecessary errors. Gaurav's point about using a Shared Drive is worth heeding too, since uploads tied to one person's account become a headache when they leave. Leave the filename blank to preserve the original.
