Trying to report an event to GA4

Hi all, 

I am trying to use the new Google Analytics 4 feature, but it seems different than the Universal version. What I was using with the GA version is the measurement reporting option to pass events to GA.  

Now there is a “create measurement” in the GA4 version. But all it does is create the measurement in GA4. It doesn’t actually report an event that happened. 

Is there a way to do this manually with the API request or app extension option?
