I am new to Zapier, I know that you can save and retrieve data from zaps with the CLI.  Is there a way to retrieve data from zap from an API.  The reason why I am asking is that we write code in Python and would like to stick to Python codebase.

Yes you can use API to retrieve the data you need using Webhooks by Zapier. This is a very good resource to get you started on that
