I have set up a Zap which is triggered when someone makes a webinar Paylink payment on my Wix website. They are then registered for the relevant Zoom webinar. However, if for some reason they manage to pay without filling a ‘first name’ field, Zoom does not register them.

So, I have put a couple of things in place to deal with this. Both work when tested, but don’t work in reality.

Once the Payment is triggered I have set up an initial step where the Zap should check and fill an empty name field with placeholder text. ie SET UP: Formatter by Zappier, Text CONFIGURE Transform Default Value, VALUES Input -Contact name (no data), Default value - Registrant. (See photos).

For some reason this step doesn’t work. So I set up another step, which kicks in if the Zoom registration fails.

2 In this case Zapier should send an email to the payer to let them know that we need more information in order to register them for the webinar. I have blind-copied myself into this stage. And, though I receive the Bcc email, no-one seems to be getting the original email. I can only think that this is going straight to spam, though one potential recipient said they couldn’t find it there either.

Any thoughts?

Hi @JLT,

Welcome to the Community.

To address Zapier issues, ensure the Formatter correctly maps the 'first name' field from your Wix Paylink trigger and consider re-adding the step or using a filter to handle empty fields. For email delivery issues, confirm the recipient's email is correctly mapped, avoid spam-like content, and try alternative email services if needed.

We're looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks for the advice - very much appreciated (as a newbie to Zapier).

As far as I understand, the Formatter step is set up correctly (see above screenshots). Are you suggesting deleting and reinstating this step with exactly the same ‘instructions’? Or can you see an error?

I can’t quite work out how to use the filters in this context. 🙄

And re the follow-up email, I’m pretty sure that the recipient is correctly mapped, as I can see the email addresses in the blind copy that I receive. However, you are probably correct re spam-like content, as the email contains a link (to the Zoom registration page). I can’t see how I can override this issue. But, if I can get the first stage to work, this ‘in-case-of-error’ step will not be needed.

Any further thoughts? 😏

Hi @JLT,

The setup looks correct, could you please try triggering the Zap and check the Zap history to see what error the Zap will run into?

I'll be keeping an eye out for your response!

Thank you.

Here is a screenshot of the error. I am mapping the ‘Contact Name First’ as this is the only relevant field from the Wix triggers.

What do you think?!

Hi there, @JLT👋

It seems like the Zoom action might have the Contact Name First field (from the Wix trigger) selected instead of the value that’s output by the Formatter action instead.

I’d suggest updating the First Name field in the Zoom action so that it takes the value from the Formatter action instead?

Can you give that a try and let us know whether that fixes it?

Thanks.

This has solved the issue (and makes so much sense, now I think about it). Every day is a school day!

I do have another issue but will start a new thread rather than go on a tangent here.

You're very welcome @JLT. I’m so glad to hear that resolved the issue. 😊 And I completely agree, every day is a school day!

Really appreciate you starting a new thread for your other issue—helps to keep things organized! 🧡 Looks like Jammer has already replied to it but feel free to @mention me in the new thread if you’re still stuck at all.
