Zap has diverged too much due to changes error.

Hello, 

I got this error message. Do you know what to do? The trigger was a type form, then a zap to send an automated email and a google sheet to gather the data, afterwards this Zap to delay 1 day to send the next email and it continues for 6 more days with 6 more delays for the user to get one email per day. The Zap was stopped at the first Delay Zap. Any tips on what might be the problem? Thanks! 

Delay by Zapier

Task was stopped because its Zap has diverged too much due to changes in the addition/removal/ordering of steps, or substitution of apps.

Good question.

That error message is saying that from the time the task was delayed and when that delay date arrived, the Zap structure changed too much.

Did you add, remove, or re-order steps during that period of time?

That’s what it sounds like to me based on the error message.

Thanks. Yes that is correct. Is there a way to fix it? Or to “copy-paste”/duplicate the automation and work with the duplicated automation? Thanks in advance for any tips on how to fix it.

Hi @AJ18 

Good question.

Zap Runs that have already started will be impacted, unless you revert to the same Zap version that was used to trigger the Zap Run.

 

Here’s a better approach:

(This will also save Zap tasks.)

Use an app like Airtable.

Airtable has Views, which are segments of data. (sort, filter, etc.) [e.g. Date = 3 days ago]

Views can be used to trigger Automations/Zaps.

Airtable Automations have a native integration with Gmail.

The concept would be to create 1 View for each email in the sequence you want to send.
