Question

Why is my Zap not pulling data from Google Sheets correctly?

I have created my google sheet right from my google form. I have all the headers set up properly. I ran a test case through (I am scoring people based on their answers) and everything on the google sheet populated as expected.

I am trying to zap my google sheet information into my KW command - however it seems as if there is an issue on the Google sheet side. Whenever I go to test (setup is a new spreadsheet row), my “data out” is the records it brings back. When I click on the most recent one, I can see the headers, but the information from the test case isn’t in there.

Example: I have a header for first name. In my test case, I put Tiff. When I look at the data out, I can see first name, but I don’t see tiff next to it. I have been trying to figure this out for hours. I’ve even disconnected google sheets and reconnected it.

Hi @KristenT

In the DATA OUT from GSheets, check the ID/Row #, then check the related Row in the GSheet to help you troubleshoot.

If you have formulas in the GSheet, then that may be causing the issue.

I do have formulas in the spreadsheet, but they are in every row and I created a different header for them… so I’m not sure why it’s calling out just row 103?

Action: GSheets - Create Row

This will create a new row in the GSheet below any existing rows with data including formulas.

e.g. If you GSheet had 100 rows and the Zap Runs, then the GSheet will have 101 rows, because a new row was added.

Zap action does not populate existing GSheet rows.

Hello @KristenT

This usually comes down to how the Google Sheets trigger is set up.

Quick checks.

Row 1 should be a single header row with no blanks or merged cells.
Use the right trigger. New Spreadsheet Row only fires for brand new rows. Use New or Updated Spreadsheet Row if you’re editing existing ones.
If you added or changed columns, click Refresh fields and re test the trigger.
Watch for blank rows, filters, or formulas that take time to resolve. Zapier reads the raw sheet.
Try turning the Zap off, adding a new test row, then turning it back on.

If it’s still not pulling correctly, which trigger are you using and what data is missing?

Hey there @KristenT 👋 Were you able to get to the bottom of why the test records from Google Sheets were coming over with no values?

If not, it could be due to those formulas you mentioned as rows with formulas but no other values entered would not be considered empty by the Zap. So if row 103 is had no values apart from the formulas then that could be why the test record for that row is coming through with no values. If you clear the formulas from the otherwise empty rows and try adding values into a new row, is it then able to pull in the values for that row?

Let us know how it goes, want to make sure this gets sorted 🙂
