Currently there is no way to send a file through the “AI By Zapier” Custom prompt to the model (like how the standard OpenAI action lets you send a file). This is super frustrating and should be added ASAP.
The standard chatGPT conversation action can’t do knowledge base and instructions aren’t as robust as the AI Builder BUT you can add files.
Has anyone found a work around for this?

Depends on how you are trying to use files in the AI step.
If you are using text based files and need to get the file contents, then you can add this Zap action: Files by Zapier - Text from File
Reads a file and returns the data as text.
For binary based files (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, ODT) and text based files eg. CSV, JSON, XML.

Insert another AI by Zapier step with the Transcribe action, and in the URL to Extract Content From field, pass in the File (Exists but not shown) object from whatever earlier step is generating the file. This will extract the raw text from the file, which you can then pass in as a plain text input to your main AI by Zapier step that summarises or does other stuff with the text.
