Using custom variables in Google Ads offline conversion tracking with Zaps

Is it possible to use custom variables in Zaps for Google Ads: Offline Conversion Tracking?

I recently (like 20 minutes ago) created a new custom variable in my Google Ads account called “click_source_type”. I want to use this field in my offline conversion tracking.

However, I don’t see “click_source_type” as an available field to populate in my Zaps.

Do I just need to wait some time for it to propagate?

My plan is to use this field to audit my data quality. I have 4 zaps: one each for (1) conversions with gclid (2)  conversions with gbraid (3) conversions with wbraid (4) conversions with no click type stored.

I want pass back a value to show which zap it came from so I can audit what is working or not working.

Hi @bill_b

Some Zap app integrations can take time for new fields to propagate.

You can try clicking the refresh button at the Zap level or at the field level.

Can you post screenshots of the Zap step you are trying to configure and where you are expecting to see the new option you created?

I created a new field in my Google Ads

I would expect the field to appear as an option to use in my Send Offline Conversions. Order ID shows up as an additional field, but only if you select Gclid as your matching option.

I have waited about 16 hours.

Hi @bill_b

Often custom fields are not supported in Zap app integrations.

That means it may require using an app API request to set the custom field value.

Zap action: GAds - API Request

Try asking ChatGPT for help configuring the GAds API request to set a custom variable.

Super helpful @Troy Tessalone . Now I need to see if Zapier can add that to our account as that App appears to be in Beta. It’s not available in our account.

@bill_b

If you have access to the GAds Zap app, then you should have access to the API Request action for GAds.
