Update an AirTable field to remove a linked record

I’m trying to Update an AirTable field to remove a linked record from that field.  I’ve tried leaving the field in the Zap blank, and I’ve tried putting in a space, but neither has affected the record. What am I missing?

Hi @jeffpdoes

Try using 3 spaces to clear the field value.

Hi there, @jeffpdoes! 👋

Did Troy’s suggestion of typing in 3 spaces into the field allow you clear the linked record in Airtable?

Want to make sure you’re all set here so please let us know whether you need any further help at all!

Hi @Troy Tessalone , @SamB

Sorry for disappearing.  Finally got back to working on this.

I realized I preferred just deleting the record, but just for fun I went back and tried the 3 spaces and that worked great to clear the field value.

Thanks!

Hi! I’d like to do a similar thing but sometimes there are multiple linked records attached, and I only want to remove one. is there a way to do that?

Ex: The field will have the following linked records:

  • Subscriber
  • Course started

And I only want to remove “Subscriber.”

Bonus would be to then add “Unsubscribed”

Hi @laurenCTCL,

Yes, you can automate this with Zapier by setting up a Zap with a trigger that detects when a record is updated. Then, use a "Find Record" action to locate the specific record and an "Update Record" action to modify the necessary fields, replacing "Subscriber" with "Unsubscribed." The exact steps may vary depending on the apps involved. Let me know which apps you're using for more specific guidance!
