Troubleshooting Webflow form submissions to Beehiiv subscribers

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hey guys, need a bit of help.

I’m trying to trigger webflow form submissions to create subscriber in Beehiiv.

I’ve created the automation, and it worked for the first 7-8 emails, then stopped. Tried to re-run, same thing. Don’t see any errors - webflow submissions definitely work, zapier gets them. Beehiiv also gets it, but what I can see is “Status - VALIDATING”, so it kind of went through to Beehiiv but didn’t at the same time. Attaching the screenshots of the setup and that log. When trying to re-test the beehiiv manually, it says Status - Invalid but confirms the test??

Status validating log:

Zapier Webflow form setup:

Results from Webflow:

Beehiiv Connection setup:

Beehiiv Connection test - status: invalid

A bit of context - I have multiple forms on the website and they all have same ID (they set up as components in Webflow). This is on purpose as it’s the same form - email + subscribe button. It could technically be an issue, but it worked for the first 7-8 emails when I set it up initially, submitted from different forms so it should work technically.

Even though, I tried to recreate it with separate form IDs and had even more issues.

I have no idea what’s wrong and on which side - will appreciate any help. Thanks!

Update - it was a Beehiiv thing.

Their support explained they have a filter on submitted emails - so anything that’s dormant/broken or fake/scam used will not get through.

Since the emails I tested the zap with were mostly random “diejdqekdie” kind of crap, majority didn’t go through for that reason. More real-looking emails were going through but still not all.

Tested it with a bulk of real emails and all went through like a breeze.

Just wanted to share in case anyone will have same question.

Maybe try to disconnect and reconnect the Beehiiv app in Zapier to refresh the connection. This can resolve authentication or token-related issues.

If submissions are not showing up in Webflow, the issue might be with the form setup or Webflow’s API connectivity

@pranayshinde I tried reconnecting and creating new API - same thing. Form setup and Webflow side of things seem to work as data gets submitted and read - the only issue seem to happen in the final stage, when it’s sent to Beehiiv.

P.S. What I also noticed - if I put in real emails like “johnmorrison@gmail.com” then it submits. If I put something random like “hdqwkejiqwo@gdqw.com” then it doesn’t go through 9/10 times. What can be the issue?

Looks like Beehiiv’s API requires valid and properly formatted email addresses. Emails like hdqwkejiqwo@gdqw.com are likely being flagged as invalid because they do not meet standard email format requirements or fail domain validation checks.

Also, Beehiiv may require a double opt-in process for new subscribers. If the email address is invalid or cannot receive emails (e.g., due to a non-existent domain), the double opt-in process will fail, resulting in a "Status - VALIDATING" or "Status - Invalid" response.

The best way to test this would be logging the API response from Beehiiv. This can provide more details about why certain submissions fail.

Thanks @pranayshinde ! That makes a lot of sense. Do you know of any way to get the logs of API response from Beehiiv?

In the meantime I was testing and it still doesn’t pass a lot of regular looking emails as well.

I have dropped the help docs and api docs link below. You can use Code by Zapier or just directly use your token and test it out on the devs website of beehiiv.

Thanks! I actually checked beehiiv side of things and it has double opt-in turned off. Despite, I tried to set it to off in the zap itself and it seemed to work. But only for a minute or so, then stopped again and now only submits email through randomly.

Thanks for the update here, @krealdesign! I’m so glad you were able to get to the bottom of what the issue was with Beehiiv’s Support team. And we really appreciate you taking the time to share this information with the Community. 🤗

Seems like you’re all set for now but please do reach back out if you run into any further issues. In the meantime, happy Zapping! ⚡
